Thanks for your reply northwest, I haven't got far to go from the airport, I will take a cab and it's only about half an hour drive at the most early morning.
Loulou, have you booked the flights yet? If not Expedia do really good hotel and flight deals. Remember to check reviews on Trip Advisor before booking the hotel.0 -

sorry you misunderstand me,i am looking at booking a car transfer back to airport as it works out cheaper than cab.
the cab is on meter but car from lincoln limousine is same price as the cabs to manhattan0 -
Hi guys have booked my NY trip for next year in April i went a few years ago and remembered that my straightners (GHD's) didnt work, I know I know there only straightners but would be nice if I could get them to work out there.
I went to a hairdressers last time and even they didnt straighten my hair with irons they used a hairdryer.
Does anyone know how to get straightners to work??0 -
your just lucky to have hair "coot" here . But mrs face worked with standard adapter in plug hole .
For hotels and prices i play around with lastminute.com and Trip advisor mess with the buttons playing with Location and prices . I see what comes up on TA then see whats around in the right area for the right prices then often go elsewhere to find best price ebookers or keep an eye on travelzoo, sunday papers try price comparisons in Travel Agents for deals there isnt a one way. I like to book then never look others like to chase a price down to the lowest nickel and often pay more . Good Luck Greenface:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -

Did you try using them with one of those cheap pound shop travel adapters?
I've spend a bit of time researching these recently for my own upcoming trip to the states, and they don't usually transform the voltage from the US standard 110V to the 230V that your straighteners need to work, and are usually only useful for things with DC adapters like mobile phones, cameras, laptops etc.
Can you not pick up a cheap pair somewhere while you're there? It's probably the easiest solution! The only other way is with a transformer of some description, which will be quite heavy in your luggage. Perhaps overkill for the sake of hair straighteners.0 -
I've never had any problems with my GHD's in the US so maybe screwedagain is right and its the adapter?
My friend had a problem with her Iphone charger last time she was in the states and went to apple for an adapter and all ok. Again I have never had any problems with my iphone charger. Maybe its just certain adapters?!New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

There is plenty of data out there to show that homeaway - as a company - is a legit company - here is one just example http://www.tnooz.com/2010/07/26/news/homeaway-turns-attention-to-london-after-new-york-rental-woe/- and my research has shown that it is not illegal to rent apartments in NY for less than 30 days in all cases. I mentioned co-ops in an earlier post. But that real enforcement would kick in in May 2011 if the bill is passed, which is not certain at this point in time.
I never said that the company wasn't legit. In other cities in the world, apartment rentals are legal, and are a totally different kettle of fish. However, all homeaway, and vrbo etc etc are listings. They take money for people to advertise, as to TripAdvisor, Expedia, etc etc etc. Just because they specialise in apartment rentals, doesn't mean they check, vet, make sure it exists, make sure it is legal, make sure it is safe, everything that appears on their website. They are a listing service.
I said that it currently is illegal, due to many laws in place, to rent for less than 30 days, and has been for many years, and that the bill that HAS been passed, I don't know why you're saying if, because it has already been passed, hence a date of May 2011 for it to come into law, and replace the current multiple laws from many years ago, to make it even easier to enforce illegal hotels, and apartment rentals...kelda_shelton wrote: »Yes - the apartment I have booked could be a scam and homeaway don't know it yet but I'm reasonably confident through my OWN research of my particular apartment - which is a basement flat with own entrance and exit points so not sharing of communal doors is legit and legal. And so I was trying to be helpful on a moneysaving forum to provide alternate options to someone struggling with hotel costs.
We'll see but it was booked through creditcard to offer the additional protection. And if I get scammed I'll be sure to name and shame. It's not against the rules to give advice on that is it??!
Thanks for the polite warnings from others.
If the place isn't zoned as a transient hotel (I've not seen one yet that is), then it is illegal, as it isn't in the right zoning. Secondly, just because there is it's own entrance, exit, doesn't mean it satisfies laws and regulations with regards to fire codes, safety etc. It also means that the authorities can knock on the door at any time, evict you, and then you're on the street without anywhere to stay.
