  • Can anyone tell me, roughly, when would be a good time to look for hotel deals for March?? Is Christmas/New Year a good time for general NY hotel deals?

Have found a few prices for various hotels that I'm happy with but don't want to lock myself into a rate with someone like Travel Republic or Alpha Rooms at the moment and would like to wait for some "deals" to pop up.

I've signed up on TravelZoo already, is there anywhere else I should be signed up/keeping an eye on?

    Hi,

My trip to NY is neaerly here! Going in Sept and looking to get some tickets to see the Yankees. We are taking our 10 yr old daughter - does anyone know if standing seats are suitable for children? Looks like we have the option of cheap standing places or $150 for a seat!!

There are no standing areas in yankee stadium. The cheapest seats are the bleechers the downside to these seats are thrre is no cover, so if it rains u get wet and if its sunny you'll get burnt. Also you will be furthest away from the pitchers mound. Also you dont really get individual seats they are just long metal benches. For tickets your best bet, if you cant get them direct, is stubhub, however you may have to make a 10min phone call to the states to set your account up. On our last trip i got 4 decent seats inbetween 1st and 4th and they were 80quid for the four.
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right

have u checked they are playing the week u r there? i went to book it but they are away every day we are there (sept 13th -17th)

    hth!!

has anyone bought the new york pass? i have one and think it seams good money for value but wondered other peoples experiance with them!

    thanks
  • Don't know what I'm expecting to hear in reply to this but....

Can anyone tell me what's looking like a decent flight price to New York next year? Specifically from Glasgow? Continental are the only direct option and don't want to go in-direct (it's for parents, not me).

Cheapest I'm getting is £470 each, which considering I paid £347 each to go to Orlando in May (doing the Continental Glasgow-Newark-Orlando route) doesn't seem that great but I don't want to recommend my parents wait if it's going to come back and bite me in the !!!.

Are people still getting those under £400 flights for next year??

Im going to NY from Edinburgh and I priced it to death looking for a deal and best indirect was around £450 a head. Direct from Glasgow was stupid money.

Thanks for replying! We've ended up paying £500 pp for direct from Glasgow! Seems to be the going rate for next year as even indirect was only about £50-£80 saving

OK - here is my loose itinerary for our trip in Sept...

Day 1 - Arrive in the afternoon, trip up the ESB (I know TOTR is meant to be better but DH insists on doing both) and general wonder around until too tired to function!

Day 2 - Boat trip - either circle line ferry or the beast. TOTR, Grand Central Station and Virgils for dinner

Day 3 - Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island (have booked tickets), visit Century 21, wonder round China Town Little Italy, Broadway show (will visit TKTS booth in the morning)

Day 4 - Food on Foot tour (need to book that), Brooklyn Bridge, Macys and Bloomingdales

Day 5 - St Patricks Cathedral, Yankees game in the afternoon (got tickets so thanks phatbear). Loeb Boathouse for dinner

Day 6 - Central park before home.

Need to fit in trips to Juniors, Lombardis, Magnolia Bakery and Jaques Torres.

Any suggestions very welcome! We are staying at the New York Palace in Midtown - good reviews and got a good price but don't think we will be eating there as is VERY pricey.

Sounds like a good itinery - I still need to do mine for my visit in September. Sorry, but what is TOTR?

St Patrick’s Cathedral is directly across the road from Rockefeller Center so unless you are attending a mass on a specific day, you may want to consider moving it to the same day as Top Of The Rock.

Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s are not near each other. Macy’s is located on West 34th Street, between 6th & 7th Avenues. It is about a 5 minute walk from the Empire State Building so you may want to move it to Day 1 if you think you have enough time.

Bloomingdale’s is located at 59th Street & Lexington Avenue. It’s within walking distance from Central Park, so you may want to combine these two destinations on the same day.

    Enjoy your trip. :)
