  • A dozen coffee kisses & a dozen cheesy nibbles, both from the Hairy Bikers book, I madt thr coffee kisses too big, so once sandwiched with the butter icing they are huge, oh well, I know for next time.

Does anyone make their own pastry? The ones I've looked at so far all have some palm oil in,which I not happy about....

If you mean puff pastry, I've done it a few times. It's not difficult but it is a lengthy process and a bit of hassle. But the results have been great and I'm starting to think it's worth the bother.

If you mean anypastry, then yes, I make pastry regularly (it's dead easy) and would never ever consider buying ready made shortcrust.

Thanks,it's something that I've been meaning to try for a while.(It's on my list!).

Am I right in thinking that you can even freeze pastry and take it out as you need it?

Yes, it freezes really well :) I had some home made puff pastry in my freezer for about three months, took it out the other day and it was lovely.

Other than puff pastry though, it's so quick and easy to make that there's little point in freezing it unless you have leftovers you want to keep, there's no point in making extra and freezing it. My shortcrust pastry this morning took about five minutes, and the only thing I even bothered weighing was the flour, so very hassle-free.

i made a huge victoria sponge with chocolate chips from the tray bake thread. it was really simple and quick to make. i recently bought a kenwood so its getting put through its paces at the moment :j

however the chocolate chips sunk to the bottom of the cake, do you think i should let the cake start cooking and then put them in?

Oooooh can someone point me in the direction of the tray bake thread please:D

As DH was leaving to go and visit his parents yesterday, I called after him to bring me a bag of apples from their orchard. I should have been more explicit with regards to the size of the bag...he came home with one of those huge Ikea bags absolutely crammed full  So...in the oven right now is a spiced apple cake and an apple crumble :) Don't know what I'm going to do with the tonne of apples still remaining...

Apple and sultana or apple and banana chutney or, if you have a slow-cooker,I have a recipe for spiced apple butter, which is like a very thick, spicy compote?
