I've just baked about a dozen buttermilk scones, cooling now, with a clean tea towel over them.

Hope they taste as good as they smell.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

I made choc muffins - they smell amazing (flat tops coz of fan oven) but I am dieting so won't be tasting them but the kids are enjoying them :)

I've not baked anything as such, but made a batch up of nigellas pancake mix for the cupboard, am about to make some pancakes, and also made up a bag of wheaten loaf mix I need to make in a few days for a friend coming round :) - handy as I'll only need to add buttermilk and oil :)
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I was experimenting with muffins again and had a go at making some using the morrello cherries from Lidl.

See my post number 330 on the muffins thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/37391972#Comment_37391972

    ;)
  • I made an onion pie, using some leftover puff pastry, that had been sitting in the fridge for a few *cough*.(My Mum had made a lovely onion pie with this pastry when she was here).I had to substitute double cream with yoghurt. It was my first attempt at making a savoury pie,and although it looked a bit messy,it was edible.

Does anyone make their own pastry? The ones I've looked at so far all have some palm oil in,which I not happy about....
  • i made a huge victoria sponge with chocolate chips from the tray bake thread. it was really simple and quick to make. i recently bought a kenwood so its getting put through its paces at the moment :j

however the chocolate chips sunk to the bottom of the cake, do you think i should let the cake start cooking and then put them in?

Did you mix them in before pouring in the mixture?

I know that for fruit cakes you can roll the dried fruit/glace cherries in flour before adding them, and this stops them from sinking.I don't think that that would work with chocolate chips!
I don't think it's a good idea to let the cake start baking and then to open the door to add the choc chips. You could always sprinkle them on top just before putting the cake in.

As DH was leaving to go and visit his parents yesterday, I called after him to bring me a bag of apples from their orchard. I should have been more explicit with regards to the size of the bag...he came home with one of those huge Ikea bags absolutely crammed full  So...in the oven right now is a spiced apple cake and an apple crumble :) Don't know what I'm going to do with the tonne of apples still remaining...
