G24 Ltd using debt recovery agency

I just can't see why a company would pursue a so called 'debt' that was apparently formed through a contract made by the car owner (not driver - as they never write to the driver, always the owner) overstaying in a private car park by putting signs up saying that the contract will be formed if overstayed. It all sounds so flimsy to me. And lets say the 'contract' says that the owner of the car will pay the company (say) £90 for overstaying - surely the 'debt' collecting firm would charge the company more than that to recover the £90 for them - phone calls / harrassment / letters / bullying / trying to scare / threats of court action etc etc.
This is one crazy world we live in!!!!
Rant over!
Agreed! It's pretty mental!
I'm sure I read somewhere the owners of the biggest clamping firm wanted to sue the government for compensation as the new regulations will basically run them out of town! Now that's mental!
As for the DCAs it's a numbers game you get a thousand "debts" to chase if three or four hundred pay your quids in... It's speculative invoicing at it's best.
Just the same as the letters sent to the owners of net connections suspected of copyright infringement. No real legal basis and instead it's grounded more on threats and intimidation...0 -

Although I agree with your sentiment that's a bad example because a postman actually has a legal right to enter onto your land to deliver the mail.
Can't quite remember the exact law but it certainly does exist.0 -

How about people knocking on our door trying to flog us electricity and gas?!?! We get plenty of them as well!0 -

Another letter in the post today - at least it keeps Royal Mail from going under !!!!
I've now got the "Notice of Intended Action". Note that it is subtly different from the example posted at the top of this forum. They have dropped the word Legal !!!! :rotfl:
They have also dropped the threats about CCJs etc from the bottom of the letter. Apparently there are now three outcomes :
1. I pay them - no chance
2. They arrange for someone to come to my house to "discuss" the "debt" - hmmmm, OK let's see you try !
3. They "recommend" to their client that they take legal action against me - ohhhh scary
I'm guessing that may well be the last I here of them ?All aboard the Gus Bus !0 -

Would be good to see a washed pic of that latest letter, SodG24, if you can post it here at all? I reckon that's his next one, he is such a worrier (friend of a friend so I have not met him, just spoken to him on the phone and he is ignoring of course).
They still use CSS Collect but CSS Collect must have been reading this forum as they've now realised that as they don't own the "debt" then they can't threaten legal action. What they have done is slightly alter the wording when compared the the sticky thread and removed any mention of intended LEGAL action and the idle threats about CCJs. I'll try and post a clean copy next week. I guess it means one of two things - I've either come to the end or I should expect a letter from G24s legal arm - whoever that may be.All aboard the Gus Bus !0 -
There have been plenty more guinea pigs before you, and no evidence of G24 ever doing anything more than sending out silly letters.
Here's one of my letterchains off G24 (my scanner is bust at the moment or I'd upload them):
1. "CHARGE CERTIFICATE - Civil Traffic Enforcement Notice"
16 days later
2. "Notice to Owner/Keeper/Hirer/Driver FINAL REMINDER"
25 days later
3. "Formal notice of intended court action" from CCS Collect Debt Collectors (just a trading name of G24)
20 days later
4. "NOTICE OF INTENDED LEGAL ACTION" - no letterhead this time - just an instruction to pay CCS. The layout and design of this one is trying to mimic an official court-type document.
25 days later
5. "72 HOUR NOTICE OF HOME VISIT" from CCS Collect (but what about the legal action you promised me in your last letter?:rotfl: And I thought the letter you sent me 70 days ago was a Final Reminder? Not very final, was it?:rotfl:)
That final letter in that particular letterchain was 8 months ago. Needless to say there was no home visit and no court action, and I've heard nothing further since. Apart from when I purposely overstayed in the same car park again, triggering the same letterchain all over again.
Thank God I read this article as I was just about to pay a G24 fine from Wickes !
I'm still not convinced that I will get off with it , but I will follow your procedure of ignoring the letters and see what happens.
Also , the entering and leaving photo's of my car were taken in bright sunlight and the driver is not visible. A website advises they need to prove who was driving the car ( and I'm not certain it was me ). I wonder if this is true.0 -

Of course you will "get off". Many other people have gone down the ignore route and nothing has happened.
As for a photo. Even if they have a very clear picture of the driver how are they going identify that driver? Don't forget that this is just a two-bit private company. Unless they have a data-base containing the pictures and details of everybody in the country they cannot identify that person. If I showed you a random picture of some people walking down a street how many of them could you name? Even the police don't have this capability. This is why they have those photo appeals on such programmes as Crime Watch. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -

It is indeed true any contract they believe exists is between them and the driver.
Seeing they have no way of doing this they have no real prospects of enforcing any charge. Although this wont stop them trying and uttering all sorts of rubbish in their letters!0
