actually, thinking about it , the people that specify no kids at their weddings are the very same people that cause a BIG stink when the kids they produced after marriage are not invited to other friends weddings !!
disclaimer - this is in my experience only , i am not accusing anyone on mse of anything ..£608.98

That was dizziblonde's point. She re-iterated it, clearly, a number of times.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

Yeah, but she's not telling other people they shouldn't have kids at their wedding. She's simply saying that she doesn't want them at hers.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

The point I'm getting at with that is that kids running around a room could be a school disco, it could be any family occasion - if it's a wedding it's a wedding because a man and a woman are getting married. It would be a wedding without kids, it would be a wedding with kids... but without the couple - it wouldn't be a wedding.
It just seems a daft sentence in my mind - putting people's children above the couple the day is about... seems a somewhat distorted sense of priorities.
And please don't be abusive towards me - I'm not being abusive towards you - edited to add thatLittle miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

believe me , i think you should have the wedding you want ..
i don't think anyone is saying the kids would be more important than the couple getting married ??
my point was , FOR ME , a wedding without kids wouldn't be the same ..
i love it , i love big family do's where everyone is there , kids to great grandma , everyone
i can understand those who can't afford to invite everyone ..
but for people looking for 'perfection' , i think they might be disappointed, as nothings perfect
i also edited to add, when have i been abusive to you ? .. why would you think i was going to be ?£608.98

Just read the first post, but sorry, none of the replies. In answer:
OP - could never imagine making a statement/request like that myself, BUT I respect their views/thought process, just believe there could be a more diplomatic approach.- We got married 3 1/2 years ago - second marriage for us both so not a "traditional" wedding by any means
- My 17 year old son "gave me away" - didn't want to bother my dad a second time round
- My 18 year old and 18 MONTH old daughers were my attendants
- My 9 year old Stepson was ring bearer
- We invited who WE wanted to the ceremony/reception - didn't invite any children apart from nephews and nieces and our own of course !!
- Noone had a problem (well they may have, but didn;t tell us !!)
- Didn't have a gift list, as in all honesty didn't want/need anything - we chose our guests based on who we believed were happy for us and would make our day memorable.
- Received over £7k in money/gift vouchers
