Anyone used RPC Recycle?

  • Did it pay what it said ? NO

Having read reviews of this service from all suppliers I took extensive pictures of my phone inside and out, on and off. The phone was in good condition. The phone had protective wrapping. RPC claimed deep screen scratches and cut their valuation from £100 to £70. They offered to charge me more for sending it back if I didn't want to accept their valuation.

I went with RPC rather than one of the others because they had no negative write ups. I am sorry that they have joined the list of disappointments.

I think this would be an interesting area for a consumer organisation or advertising authority to investigate to see what percentage of equipment are paid out at the offered price.
  • No negative write-ups? What about the thread you're posting on??
  • For anyone looking for recycling companies that do NOT beat down the price for minor daily wear and tear, the best way is avoid the companies offering much more than the 'middle' of the pack.

Generally, the decent, well known and trustworthy recycling companies CANNOT pay the highest amount for your item, but they will pay what they say they will.

The fly-by-nights offering higher amounts will just do what they all do - get the price down and hold you to ransom. I learnt the hard way myself, be warned.

This was also my experience - although not with RPC Recycle, (then again that was a good while ago). What would be very helpful is some kind of MSE "ratings" system for these folks - perhaps Recommended, Use, Okay, Warning, Avoid.

Now I guess users on this thread would vote RPC Recycle as Warning or Avoid - probably the latter because they're not honouring their offers AND charging for the returns. I'd add Envirofone in the "Avoid" category (didn't honour the offer and actually damaged the phone)

RPC are rip off merchants offering the highest price then revising downwards. I was offered 50% less for my HTC Wildfire S, they said it was overheating. I was so cross that I paid the £3 to get my phone back and guess what.. It doesn't overheat! So I have spent nearly £7 in postage on a relatively cheap phone but I wasn't going to let them get away with this practice. Don't use RPC some of you stand to lose far more than me.

Lured in by a price £30 above most other companies for my old galaxy note, only to have the £30 knocked off 'for scratches'! If it's too good to be true...
  • Sent in my HTC one X (valued at £130). It wasn't the highest one, but I'd looked at the first few posts on this thread.

Got an email stating that they'll give me £97.50 for it due to scratches on the screen and some damage to the casing.
OK there were a few light scratches on the screen but the case was not scuffed.

    No where on their "
How do I know if the mobile phone I wish to recycle meets the full value conditions?" page does it state that they'll knock off 25% for light scratches.

I won't use them again and I'd advise others not to.
  • I used RPC Recycle very recently (October 2013) to sell my Nokia Lumia 800, which was in good condition and I was quoted £50 before I sent it and based on the reviews on here, they seemed trustworthy.

However, I was wrong, very wrong! Upon receiving my handset, they claimed it was scratched and the proximity sensor was not working, which was not correct at the time I posted it. I asked for photographic evidence, which was questionable as it could have been any Nokia Lumia 800 that they had....Also, No where on their "How do I know if the mobile phone I wish to recycle meets the full value conditions?" page does it state that they'll knock off 25% for light scratches..

They then claimed they were only due me £25, 50% of the original quote! and then had the cheek to try and charge me £3 for me to have the privilege of a returned mobile phone, basically holding me to a (very small) ransom to get my phone back!!!

When I pointed out that this was my property and I had rights to get it back for free, they said it's a "carrier fee"...however they have freepost envelopes so that doesn't really make sense! I advised i was happy for my phone to be returned in a freepost envelope but allegedly this was not procedure!!!

RPC Recycle Ltd are total scammers and I advise everyone to steer well clear. They will be on Rogue Traders on Watchdog very soon.

Maybe I can't read, but find it amazing that people say that based on what's on here!!
