as a disco owner , bought second hand approx 3 years ago , mine is the 'old shape' paid 15000 for it then , so i would assume you are going for the latest shape , if you are paying out that much you should be , i found my one on ebay then dealt direct with the owner negotiating the price . mine is still worth about 10,000 going by the price guides so it has held its value quite well, i would presume the later models would also and like other people have said the off road capabilities are there if you need them , which is comforting to know.

  • I am still more interested in the cost aspect in comparing rather than people opinions of the cars, were all different and could go round in circles when deciding what car is the best

    So Disco, Volvo and X5

    Cheers

thanks for opinions so far though ;-)

Sadly they cannot stop too well on slippery roads, there were 2 of them in the dyke at the end of the road yesterday.

    they are heavy beasts

Indeed they are, but of course the driver/s are aware of that, or at least they should be.

Chelsea Tractor? Nice bit of type casting there lol!!

I live in an agricultral area and do intend to drive the car off the road, but I will also use it to drive to Sainsburys.. not sure what type that puts me as.

I would like the benefit of 7 seats and will soon be the owner of two dobbermans so though the disco best for headroom..

I don't believe I type cast you at all, I merely asked the question, if you were to become a "chelsea tractor" driver then the off road capabilites of the car are not important so what ever model you chose would make no difference. As you have said that you will need to use the car for some off road driving I would say that rules the Volvo out as that will get stuck in a shallow puddle. The disco would be the best bet or as another posted mentioned a Shogun or even a toyota Amazon maybe?

Try visiting honestjohn.co.uk and view the car by car breakdowns and it may help you decide which is going to be better for you.

Disco3s aren't agricultural, they're excellent cars. Even on road tyres, with the full traction control system they can zip up and down most slippery surfaces.

by agricultural i meant they are more land rover than range rover

    Do some basic research.

call a dealership and ask how much for a small and big service. Or alternatively price up a few items such as brake pads and discs, filters etc and then a couple of things like brake calipers and shocks.

Check on line for tyre prices

Check the site for VED rates

Or alternatively buy a copy of what car and that will give you a ball park figure for depreciation and running costs.
  • what car isnt too specific on ££

thank you Hintz.. had hope to gather info from people on here 1.to save time 2. more truthful than a dealer
