Any suggestions on which to go for? only looking to spend upto £15k
Please advise in terms of cost not whether you like one car more than the other. i could do with a comparible on the below
Average Service cost
Tax
Tyres
Parts
Fuel (will be going for the 2.4 D5 Volvo and the 2. TDV6 for the Disco
How well they retain their value
Cheers Guys, my intuition is telling me that the Volvo will be cheaper but lose more money. I would have to choose that the point when depreciation slows down

PS Also possibly considering the X50

Your looking at 4 x 4's but are you intending to do any off roading?? or are you looking for a chelsea tractor??
If you do intend to go off road at all then it will have to be the disco, the XC90 is next to useless off road, the closest it gets to being good at off road is a gravel track.
If I recall isn't there an issue with tyres for the XC90, I think (while ago now, so it may be different now) but I think the tyre size that is used is only used on the XC90 and no other vehicle so it pushs the price up.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
Cheapest big 4x4 leases around just now are on the XC90 (all others are silly money at the moment). But should be able to get it for under £300+VAT/month.
Might be an option?0 -
disco's hold there money well but will drink more fuel(aerodynamics of a brick) and are very agricultural, they will have a better resale value when you wish to sell it on as they are a capable 4x4 with interchangable parts and often used for offroading, have you considered a mitsubishi shogun?, i am looking for a 4x4 atm and they are much better value for money than the disco/volvo , exceptionally well built and have japanese reliability as well, i think the volvo's are a tad overpriced for what they are, the shogun has the best of both worlds-good off road capability with range rover type levels of comfort0

Disco3s aren't agricultural, they're excellent cars. Even on road tyres, with the full traction control system they can zip up and down most slippery surfaces.0

Might get a brand new Ssangyong Rexton for your money and they are not as bad as the motoring press make out.0

Chelsea Tractor? Nice bit of type casting there lol!!
I live in an agricultral area and do intend to drive the car off the road, but I will also use it to drive to Sainsburys.. not sure what type that puts me as.
I would like the benefit of 7 seats and will soon be the owner of two dobbermans so though the disco best for headroom..0 -
Nissan Pathfinder (although reviews suggest spending a bit more on a Disco) is one for the short list with 7 seats.
Are you towing with it? It is the braked towing weight that is more important to me these days and not the effectiveness off road as they will all deal quite effectively with "normal" off road work (the odd field etc).0 -

Defo the Disco then, the Volvo may look prettier, but it will be relatively !!!! off road, and still well clear of the X5!Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Sadly they cannot stop too well on slippery roads, there were 2 of them in the dyke at the end of the road yesterday.0
