Why is it that most x5's I see are driven by females then?
No, seriously I'd genuinely like to know? Are they looking to pull a bloke with such a malfunction?
Because X5s are only suitable for giving you a downward look at Jocelyn and Araminta's schoolfriends as you pull up at school or, in extremis, hauling Jocasta's horse box off a wet field.0 -

Off a wet field, it'll be lucky, unless of course the horsebox is next to the gate and the gate is next to the road where the car can stay on tarmac.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

I might be a fan of BMW's but the X5 doesn't make any sense to me. Then again neither does a Land Rover Discovery for all the same reasons.
A 4x4 is a work horse, a vehicle to choose if you need or want to go off road. It's a utility vehicle. The Toyota Land Cruiser I was in about 4 years ago in Australia was incredibly refined and quick on an unmade road with a very comfortable ride. It might have had leather inside, but it looked like it was more for practical reasons (wide the mud clean off the seats), the interior was a bit plasticky, but that fits for a utility vehicle.
Sit in the latest discovery, the X5 and similar vehicles and it's like sitting in the board room of an investment bank (yeah, sat in one of those too). Would you put your sheep and hay bales in there?
The latest X5 that you wouldn't get for £15K is even more ridiculous, it has no spare wheel and uses run flat tyres. If you get a puncture you can drive 50 miles to get it replace. So it's a rough tough go anywhere 4x4 so long as anywhere isn't more than 50 miles from the nearest tyre fitters. That's not really going to work in the Australian outback is it :rotfl:
I'd go with vehicles like the Land Cruiser, Mitsubishi Shogun or if going for a life style 4x4 keep it econimic with something like a Hyundai Sante Fe that won't empty your wallet if something goes wrong.
If you want space and board room comfort while you travel I think a BMW 5 series touring would be an excellent choice0
