Sorry, but you are still talking rubbish. The Range Rover Sport is based on the Discovery 3 Chassis.

Discovery 2 can trace it's ancestry straight back to the 1970s Range Rover, but D3 is a very different animal.

what car isnt too specific on ££

None of the ones you have shgortlisted are going to be cheap. In fact I imagine they will all be bloody expensive.

If it was me I might base my decision on which had the best independant garage in your neighbour hood ask around and see what like minded folk think.

it appears i stand corrected, but tbh i have no experience of disco 3's, so the difference between a disco 3 and a range rover is?

I think you are more likely to get independent Land Rover mechanics to do any servicing or repairs which should keep maintenance and service costs down. If the Disco 3 has the same engine as the Range Rover sport then the mpg isn't horrendous, in fact our sport did more miles to the gallon than our current Lexus hybrid.
The TDV6 is a lovely engine much better than the old TDi's.

Try the sites posted, tax and servicing are easy to find yourself. You'll even get an idea of fuel consumption even if it is less accurate than real experience the tax and servicing figures wont change.

To quote from Not The Nine O'Clock News : "About 30 years and a plastic cabinet to you, Chief"

There's not all that much difference between a latest generation Discovery and latest generation Range Rover. Both were designed from the ground up to be world class vehicles, both on- and off- road, but with different target markets, so different body styles (5/7 seats), engines, trim level etc.

Going back a page, the Discovery 2 was a cheap rehash of the Discovery 1, which was a cheap refresh of the classic Range Rover design. Defender also gets its basic design from the original Range Rover. There are differences, but if you were looking up at one from underneath, you'd have some trouble telling which was which unless you knew your stuff.

Me? If they still made them, I'd buy a brand new 1992 200tdi 5 door Discovery tomorrow :p

defender started as 110 in 1983
    Range Rover started in 1970
so how can a defender have got its basic design from a Range Rover.
