Boiler Scrappage

I've just learnt about this forum and am new to most of this info. Can anyone please tell me if there is a deadline for applications and does the scrappage scheme include oil-fired boilers? Thank you0

Hello, I am a writer and I also run a heating company. i think I can give an answer to most of the questions posted.
How to apply:
I wrote an article on this subject here:
I can't give you the link but you can find it at suite101.com title: How Does The Boiler Scrappage Scheme Work
In the process I do not think there is any reason for EST to contact the plumber to check the information. I could be wrong.
Info you give the EST when you apply, copied from their website:
they state:
Once you have the quote then please ensure you have the following information to hand before aplyying online
or calling 0800 512 012:
- Your full name.
- The address of the property you wish to claim the voucher for.
- The make and name of the boiler being scrapped.
- The company name, address and contact details of the installer carrying out the work.
- The type of replacement boiler to be installed e.g. gas, biomass.
Oil Boilers
Yes they come under the scheme.
Typically they will be more that 25 years old.
Cost of replacing a boiler
The cost can vary a great deal and depends on the lay out of the house and what type of new boiler you are going to have fitted.
Between £2K - £3,000 would be typical.
The best way to ensure you are getting a good deal is get lots of quotes - at least 3.
Also, do be wary of any that are extremely cheap. Engineers regularly see installations which are not up to scratch and with boilers that aren't up to the job. Saving a few pounds might end up costing you more in repares and a premature boiler replacement in a few years time.
Any concerns - get more quotes, there are lots of heating firms out there.
There are so many heating companies and new houses aren't being built so the market is quite competitive. I do not think you should worry that installer are going to put the prices up by £400. Just get more quotes.
Installers details: It is the Gas Safe Registration number which is important and you should have it on your quotation.
scrap scheme deadline
No deadline, just when the money runs out.
they have given funds for 125,000 applications but they estimate more than 3,000,000 g rated boilers are working out there. So it is likely funds will run out quickly.

The EST haven't asked for my installers number though so they won't have it and I could be making the whole thing up. Obviously I wouldn't be able to claim the money but they would be wasting time allocating a voucher to me when I am not entitled to one. The installers number is only asked or on the new form not the old one.0

I sent the email on 10th January - the one that opened up lots of questions when you click through to register, inc insaller name, boiler type etc.
I copied it to my installer - who came back and said that I had to attache his quote.
So i did that and sent the second email off on 11th Jan.
Phoned them on 18th - they were horrid and couldn't get me off the phone quickly enough - we are working through the registrations and will get back to you.
By today they hadn't so I phoned and got the same thing - except this time the dismissive woman told me that they would eventually get back to me, but I could get in quicker if I completed the online form!!
I was furious! Why did they not tell me this on 18th! And it seems it is first come first served, and I hadn't applied.
So completed the online form pronto!
Then went on email, and discovered I had applied (?) contrary to what EST told me, and that I would have my voucher in 20 Working days.
They have not got a clue what they are doing. I guess in 2 months time I will still be using the old boiler and fitting a new kitchen (yayy).
Now where did I put my left hand?0 -
I can't believe they're telling you 20 working days that's a month! I can't wait a month so as usual I'll miss out.I sent the email on 10th January - the one that opened up lots of questions when you click through to register, inc insaller name, boiler type etc.
