Boiler Scrappage

  • I have pointed out this same fact on another thread - this is not about the Government trying to save people money on their bills - its about helping them meet their CO2 emission targets!
We also try to persuade people to keep their existing boilers for as long as possible and not to go for a new one, but some people just want to spend their money!
  • Our boiler is 31 years odld and when it is running the gas meter flies around in a way I never knew they could. Our bill for 2 months is £250 so yes we are happy to pay or a new smaller boiler. As I mentioned this was already arranged before the scrappage scheme was announced. I have only filled in the online form as requested on the EST site although now looking at it it has changed. Beore it opened up an email with a form and now it links to a form on their site. They are asking for additional information now. They didn't ask for the Installer Accreditation number before or details of what the new boiler is. This is where I found the new link.

I filled in the original form too last Tuesday and have since noticed that it has changed. I havent heard anything back and was wondering whether to fill the new form in too
    Errrr...come back later ;)
  • I rang the day it first started and gave my details. The lady said she would send an application pack but after a week i hadn't received it and started to worry about missing out so tried ringing. Was unable to get through at all so eventually found and completed the email questions. I still haven't received an application pack (does this exist?) or response to my email, and unable to get through on phone all last week. Has anybody actually received a response in any form?
  • Well they are suppossed to be sending the first vouchers today. I have spoken to my plumber and he says they haven't contacted him (to veriy the information).

are you saying you haven't got an f-ing keyboard?
There definitely is a F but it's a bit sticky. It was OK but then I sent it away for repair and it came back with a sticky F. I try not to think about how that happened.

Oh I totally agree for those that had already made that decision and done the maths on the payback period of having a new boiler. Its those who hadn't, see something for nothing and haven't worked out that its going to take 10 years or so to get their money back that allowing themselves to be conned. I mean is there a point in replacing a perfectly functioning boiler which may have another 20 years life in it just to saddle yourself with addl cost you neither want nor need at the moment?

    Cheers
There are other reasons for having to replace boilers but I won't say what they are on here so if I do get £400 back then its better in my pocket then some MP's ;)

I think you're right canucklehead. if you've already planned this work and can afford it then it is a real bonus.

This scheme makes me cross as it only benefits people who can already afford to pay outright for a new boiler as the voucher comes after you pay out!
Also it is only a relatively small pot of money which will no doubt run out very quickly.
The man who serviced my v old boiler recently said that he thought prices of boilers were being inflated to counteract the vouchers and that we'd be better off just shopping around carefully.
So in summary this scheme doesn't benefit the needest, only people with money in the bank already.

but what the heck is happening??

I phoned them yesterday and they were so dismissive - yes if you have emailed us we will get back to you - and now I find this new form...

TBH we probs should replace our boiler but it works ok and if we don't get the £400 then we will wait and do other jobs first. But it would be good to get the 2k for replacing the boiler out of the way.

    Then I can think KITCHEN!!!!
  • Yes when will they get back to us. I was suppossed to be getting mine done this week, fortunately because of the bad weather it has fallen behind but if the plumber turns up to do it I can't turn him away.
