SKY HD Offer?

Does anyone know if the World Cup will be shown in HD? I know it's always on bbc1 and itv if that helps.
Had the box installed but haven't been home to see what all the fuss is about yet. Should see it tomorrow. I've got a feeling I won't notice a difference because the old standard definition was a decent picture as it is
BBC HD obviously has it and ITV HD is gonna be up and running in time for the world cup... So that should mean pretty much every game in pure HD goodyness

I too, have been made the ridiculously good offer and gladly accepted!
Was on a random day off from work a couple of weeks ago and got a call from Sky. Gentleman on the phone offering a HD box upgrade free of charge. Told him I wasn't interested as I was never going to pay them an extra 10 quid just for detail. Then he clarified the offer and said I would get:- HD Box - FREE
- HD Package - FREE for 12 months
- Installation - FREE
What was the catch? We'd be tied up for another 12 months with Sky. (Just passed 12 months on the Sky Plus box in Feb, hence were no longer bound to any contract with Sky)
Installer came around last week and had it all sorted for us. Very impressed with HD quality and the offer. Chuffed to bits as we are very likely to continue with Sky due to the sports channels.
Bring on HD World cup!0 -
Anyone who didn't get the free HD for a year offer, a customer service person said it may be because you have another discount on your package (like mine 25% off for six months). I was told to ring back in June when my discount ends and they will offer something else such as free HD.
It seems a bit of a joke paying for it considering it's just a better picture but watching the football, films and docs are alot better if you ask me. As I said , it puts you off watching the normal channels because the difference is so noticeable.
Has anyone noticed not every program is in high def even though it's on the 'HD' version of the channel? If you watch say The Simpson's on 4hd it's just a smaller screen and the same quality as normal SD.0 -

Thats what they told me. I need to wait til 25th of March....
As for picture Quality: I think thats called downscaling. It actually just makes stuff look like HD, but it isnt really.0 -
But this lucky guy is currently on half price for 6 months still got the free HD pack thrown in.I got offered a free hd box, with free install after going thru cancellation dept... Been having probs for a couple of days with box coming up no signal... corrects its self after a short while but not impressed... sky offered a free service call (but said i wasnt prepared to wait for possibly more than 1 visit to rectify the fault due to it being intermittent.... ) said i had been thinkin bout upgrading to hd and sky then offered the free hd, free install and no monthly subscription to pay for the hd option for sky, just getting the basic free HD channels at the moment...... currently paying half price 10.50 for six months from a deal i got from sky a couple of weeks ago..... result..
And I remember seeing another post on another thread someone currently on 12 months half price got all the HD box/install free including HD pack as well.0 -
Does seem strange. i'm happy enough as I'm saving about 15 quid a month on the full package and I thought as i'm on another contract with the new box i'd eventually be paying £58.50 a month but the bloke said i'd definitely get another offer once this one runs out.
The thing with Sky is if you don't ask you don't get. A mate of mine has had the full package for over ten years and always paid full price. He has never mentioned cancelling so they don't even try to offer a discount to him.
To the other poster yeah on certain programs I'd say it's actually better watching the SD version of the channel over HD. That is if it's something old.0 -

I amended the post - i got the box free, and installation free without any HD pack - i can only get the basic free HD channels..... to be honest i cant tell the difference so im glad i didnt pay £10 a month for the HD pack.. im waiting to hear back from sky re poor installation, the guy just changed the box and left the cable and lnb (which tech support suggested last week could be dodgy - due to loss of signal problems, which prompted me to cancel sky and they offered free box & installation) and im currently thinking of cancelling Sky and going over to VirginMedia due to the poor support provided so far when upgrading to HD... how long would it have taken the guy to check the cable/lnb and change either (i suspect cable as the old sky+ box works fine upstairs....).

In the past couple of months they have been advertising the box for £49, with installation at £30, giving it away 'free' nets them extra £79 on the deal. they are not losing out!!! Who's to says that later in the year, they are not going to abandon the £10 per month extra charge, when you think the box initially cost £199, anything can happen.
So giving away the Box, installation charge and not charging £10 per month, I consider a "Free" promotion.
