Morrisons staff putting things aside.

Are the staff allowed to gather up goods to pay for later when they are supposed to be at work in the store then?
I suppose it could be said (& probably has), that you could have said "where are you going with those, I want them". If that had been me they'd have been in my trolley not 'out the back' in hers! Though I don't mind staff getting first dibs on stuff, it usually goes with the territory of the job & why not, but no chance if they're marking down something I was just about to purchase.0 -

i think from working in retail it wasnt something which should be done but in terms of morrisons i cant answer if its the same or not0 -
I'm sure no matter where you work there are some perks to the job, it maybe cheap travel for a bus driver or trolley dolly, first shout to get a cup final ticket for a premiership player earning thousands, or the tea-boy in an office who may only get 'free' biros.
Op where do you work ? How would you feel if your boss let the checkout girl in Morrisons come into your office to use the Internet, but they give you the same perk.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

What happened to the customer coming first?
Fine when the shop shuts, any that are unsold buy.
I've worked in retail and it's not an acceptable thing to keep sale items from going onto the shop floor, they're designed to get the customer in, not save the employee money.
They already have staff discount as a perk of the job.
No different to a shop advertising on the TV that somethings on sale for 75% off, only for none of them to actually be available because the staff have all kept the items back for themselves.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Bus drivers don't pay for bus journeys as the majority of them get free bus travel for them and usually discounted travel for their partner/family.** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

I cant believe someone is prepared to bother morrisons HO with such a trivial complaint. It goes without saying if the staff had to wait till the end of the day, then after you had spotted it and possibly plenty of other shoppers they would stand little if no chance. I have worked for a major retailer and it was considered a perk of the job - managers would also ask you to pop them items to one side.
Im just amazed at what some people consider grounds to complain about, at worst the staff member could be sacked - but the OP obviously is 'init' all for themselves. Its a sad sad world sometimes.BSC member 137

And I have noticed that bus-drivers never buy a ticket when they are oof-duty.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

It's quite different. Supermarkets discount fresh stuff more and more heavily throughout the day as they can only sell it that day or bin it, which obviously costs them more. It's not a sale item, and they do not advertise these discounts as ever officially existing, like they do with standard sale items such as a pound off a pizza or two for one on milkshake, or like Comet would with TV sets.
Also at Morrisons if there are any of these items left after the front door shuts staff are encouraged to stick them all into one trolley and walk round the store approaching remaining cusomers to see if they are interested in any at about 90% off, so the company would likely prefer their staff to 'stick one beside for themselves' at the first discount rate than have every single bargain hunter in the local area approach the store two minutes before closing to pick the items up at a loss.0 -
Personally I think its perks of the job. If you had the cakes in your hand then fair enough she should have give you them back, but if they were on the shelf then maybe she never heard you or didnt see that you were going to buy them??
Whilst I worked in Haddows, when we were told we were closing down, all the staff put 8 bottles behind and were allowed to keep them and pay for them on the last day as we got 90% off. Also, when there was really good deals, we would keep things through the back and pay for them later (payday) if we skint. I suppose all places are different but it is a perk of the job. xx0/2013

OP - surely if the lady knew you were going to buy the cakes then she wouldn't bother reducing them. They only reduce stuff to make sure they sell, if you had told her that you were going to buy them she would not have bothered.
As for shopping for yourself and or putting stuff to one side it is a big no if you work at Tesco. You can get sacked for doing either. Once something is reduced and on the shelf you can help yourself during your break or after your shift. This happens a lot when they have very good 3 for £10 wine offers on, you will see staff pushing trolley full out of door. Decent staff let each other know as soon as any good offer turns up. Only problem is unless you have a car with you there is no where to store your purchases if you buy them during your break. They will put a customers shopping to one side, even in walk in fridge, but not if it is staff. If you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 75550
