You got me before I left lol.

NO, PLEASE READ WHAT I'VE SAID.

I could have kicked up a fuss in the store, I could have gone to the store manager and probably have left with the cake, but I didn't as I'm not vindictive.

I've read what you wrote, thanks. And understood it. I just happen to think it's ridiculous and, actually, yes, it is vindictive actually, given that you said in an earlier post that you hope the woman in question is sacked.

  • Do you have proof that the person purchased the said cakes at the end of her shift? As far as I can tell you have just assumed she did. Maybe she noticed that the expiry had already passed when she reduced the cakes and removed it from sale to prevent selling an out of date item or there could have been another problem which prevented its sale. Did you tell her you wanted to purchase the cake or did you assume she knew what was on your mind?

You could have quietly had a word at customer services about this or even challenged the shop assistant concerned but you did not. Instead you chose to contact head office so yes, I do think you are being vindictive, because you have clearly said in other posts that her actions were of a sackable nature  This is something that could have been nipped in the bud at the time and I think you've only contacted head office not because you were "wronged" but you want to see if you can get something free out of them.

I am amazed about the fuss OP has created all over a box of reduced cakes! To imply that the shopworker should be sacked because of his deprivation of a cake bargain, defies belief. I cant help thinking if Victor Meldrew is alive and well and planning a comeback on telly ;).
  • You're probably one of those people who hang around while the items are being reduced and put them all in your trollery, so no-one else gets a look in.

What a fuss over a pack of cream cakes.
  • "I could have kicked up a fuss in the store, I could have gone to the store manager and probably have left with the cake, but I didn't as I'm not vindictive."

(Can't get the quote paste thingy to work, sorry :o)

I work at Morrisons, and my partner used to work at Morrisons, and we can both tell you that on behalf of the member of staff in question, they would have preferred it a lot more if you had seen the manager and took the cakes! If you had any idea of the way Morrisons staff are treated, and if Head Office take this complaint as seriously as you deem it to be, then if you didn't want to be vindictive i'm afraid you've gone the wrong way about it?!! I'm quite shocked that you seem fairly open to the idea of this member of staff being sacked, considering today's current climate?! Ok, technically, what they did was wrong, but yes also it is a perk of the job, as many other people have rightly stated that you get in every job.................. but the bottom line is, regardless of them being rude if it was blatent you were about to buy them, that it is all over a 70 odd pence box of cakes?? If they were that important then couldn't you have just gone back the following day to buy some more, even if it meant having to fork out the extra 20p for the full price, or whatever it was??

With all due respect, it is customers writing letters of complaint over trivial things like this, which staff know may lead to a serious warning, that give some staff the bad attitutude that they do admittedly have.

Was in Morrisons a few weeks ago after reading about cheap console games on the net.

Was in the gaming isle when I overheard one member of staff asking another member that if he gets any of the discounted xyz games in, would he put them aside for him, he agreed.

Was in Morrisons yesterday, was about to buy a box of 4 fresh cream cakes when one of the bakers staff came up and started reducing the items. She reduced the scones, then reduced the box of cakes I wanted to 75p, looked at me, then didn't even put the box back on the shelf, took it out the back with her.

I always thought the customer came first.

Dont be so selfish. They only get the min wage and this is their perk. If you feel so put out by this then I suggest you get a job there as possibley a shelf stacker or cleaner. You then be able to enjoy the perks yourself

I have to agree with the majority on this-how very petty and a serious case of over reaction imho. but it does make for a funny read!!! lol

  • Lol, all it shows me is how the vast majority of people replying, especially the latter ones, cant even read properly and act as judge, jury and executioner without even understanding what has been written.

I'm sorry, but regardless of what has been written, Head Office will view the issue as being the fact they took the cakes into the back, not that they were rude by doing so! And just out of interest, and sorry if i've missed this somewhere else, but why didn't you just ask them why they'd removed the cakes........... if nothing else they might have been embarassed and gave you them, or maybe there was even a totally innocent reason why they were removed??
  • "Sacked on the spot?" Jesus Christ where did you work!? A verbal warning maybe, perhaps even a written one, but honestly no one would get sacked on the spot for doing what you describe - that's a ridiculous comment designed to make the nature of your complaint sound much more extreme than it really is.

I gotta be honest, this is an awful lot of fuss over a box of cakes. I mean it really is a massive over-reaction - I doubt even a very customer-orientated member of the Morrissons Customer Service team would take it particularly seriously - probably just fob you off with something along the lines of "the matter will referred to the store manager who will investigate it further" and pretty much forget about it.

I really wouldn't expend too much energy over something like this.

    Well said!:T
