If people cant see a problem with that, then the mind boggles.
What a bitter person.
I can't believe that you've complained to Morrisons head office over a reduced box of cakes.
I can just imagine you stood there, exclaiming loudly: "I'm going to buy that box of cakes once the sticker is on, can everybody hear me? Nobody else better grab them."
If I was the member of staff I'd have probably taken them "out the back" just to p*ss you off.

Yes, that is alright it makes absolutely no difference to the store who buys them, as long as they are sold. So you think that by working for a store you give up all rights to a bargain? The mind certainly does boggle.
They must have bloomin fantastic cakes for you to be getting so het up about them.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

I worked in M&S more than twenty years ago and one of the perks then was visiting 'the trolley' after the store closed. Any food that was shortdated was loaded onto a trolley and offered at silly prices to staff. There was a rota so for example one day the food section staff got first go, the next day it would be menswear and so on. Too be honest most days if your section didn't get first go it wasn't worth bothering.
Nothing ever got reduced on the shelf for customers. I don't go into M&S much these days but I never see yellow stickers anywhere in the food section so presumably 'the trolley' is still operating twenty odd years later. The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water

Was in the gaming isle when I overheard one member of staff asking another member that if he gets any of the discounted xyz games in, would he put them aside for him, he agreed.
Was in Morrisons yesterday, was about to buy a box of 4 fresh cream cakes when one of the bakers staff came up and started reducing the items. She reduced the scones, then reduced the box of cakes I wanted to 75p, looked at me, then didn't even put the box back on the shelf, took it out the back with her.
I always thought the customer came first.
I am with you on this. Staff should not be allowed to buy reduced items. (sale or special offers yes). I worked as a loss adjuster a few years ago, we found many staff from all regions reducing items to a mere 10p for themselves, the biggest was Cooked chickens from the rottiserie. Customers didn't get a look in.
The rules were changed so staff could not buy whoops/reduced items whilst on their shift. This is a big Supermarket, no longer work there so not sure if things have changed.0 -
M&S have started doing customer reductions now.
Thinking about it again - if a customer ever asked me if something was getting reduced I would always give it to them even if I wanted it. If they asked I'd probably do it a bit cheaper as well because they were definitely taking it.0 -
I used to work for M&S's sister company in South Africa - Woolworths (yes, really, looks just like M&S here, nothing like UK WW). 'Waste' was the stuff on sell-by date which was then brought off the floor and sold to the staff at 30% of cost. The retailer wouldn't have anything reduced on the floor (on promotion yes), but I know that if they had seen what the Morrison's lady was doing, they would have been pretty cross with her.
It's not up to Morrison's staff to police whether customers are hovering and get 'irritated' by it. Their job is to sell their goods and give a service to customers, and she should have been pleased to have made a customer happy. Instead of which, there is an angry customer who has now told everyone on an internet site about it.
I wouldn't have been bothered enough to complain to HO, but I do think the OP is right. It should be the customer first.

dont shops usually operate a first come first served policy? was it on the shelf or did they take it from your basket? there you go.Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)
new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,0000 -
All this over a box of cakes jeez, its a perk of the job in retail, ive put various things aside when i worked in retail, i even asked colleagues to put things aside for me as i would buy them,
OP was the box damaged or was the item out of date as that could explain why it was removed form the shelf0
