  • I cannot believe you have contacted HO over such a trivial matter, maybe she did buy them, maybe she didn't but there are not many perks in retail and if 1 of them is to be able to buy reduced produce then good luck to them!
Most supermarkets are opened 7 days a week and some 24 hrs a day, over the years these workers have been forced to cover all hrs at a low wage, so give them a break, and no i don't work for a supermarket.
You will probably get a letter back and a voucher as the customer is always right so you will be able to buy a basketfull of cakes! :-p

Was in Morrisons a few weeks ago after reading about cheap console games on the net.

Was in the gaming isle when I overheard one member of staff asking another member that if he gets any of the discounted xyz games in, would he put them aside for him, he agreed.

Was in Morrisons yesterday, was about to buy a box of 4 fresh cream cakes when one of the bakers staff came up and started reducing the items. She reduced the scones, then reduced the box of cakes I wanted to 75p, looked at me, then didn't even put the box back on the shelf, took it out the back with her.

I always thought the customer came first.

grow up you big baby

I have to admit if I was the one reading your complaint in Morrison's HQ I would be laughing my head off!!

There are much more important things in life to worry about other than a member of staff getting to a box of cakes before you did. Next you'll be accusing her of deciding the price for herself so she can get it cheaper!!!

  • "Sacked on the spot?" Jesus Christ where did you work!? A verbal warning maybe, perhaps even a written one, but honestly no one would get sacked on the spot for doing what you describe - that's a ridiculous comment designed to make the nature of your complaint sound much more extreme than it really is.

I gotta be honest, this is an awful lot of fuss over a box of cakes. I mean it really is a massive over-reaction - I doubt even a very customer-orientated member of the Morrissons Customer Service team would take it particularly seriously - probably just fob you off with something along the lines of "the matter will referred to the store manager who will investigate it further" and pretty much forget about it.

I really wouldn't expend too much energy over something like this.

Anyone working in a shop that acts like the last quote, should be fired on the spot. They are there to do a job, not be awkward because they don't like people getting a bargain.

But you don't think they deserve a bargain either, that makes you not better does it?

What a nasty person you are. You didn't get a discount on a cream cake that you hadn't even picked off the shelf so you want to get someone fired?

  • I worked in retail for about 10 years and while it was a few years ago now, I would have been sacked on the spot for doing something comparable.

Well you couldn't have worked for a reputable retailer because even 10 years ago, there would be procedures to be followed before sacking someone.

Are you honestly saying that you would like to see someone sacked for nabbing the cream cakes before you? Why didn't you challenge her and say something like "excuse me, I was just about to purchase those" and then she may have apologised and handed them back to you.

Im just amazed at what some people consider grounds to complain about, at worst the staff member could be sacked

Why would they be sacked if it's a perk of the job and allowed?
  • I think everyone can see that you came here to vent about your percieved bad customer service, but you also need to accept that this doesn't necessarily mean that people will agree and support you - in this case people (myself included I'm afraid) simply don't feel that you have actually been wronged by the events that you describe.

    Simple as that really.

I do find this thread quite funny. Thanks for brightening up my afternoon!

To the OP, I am not going to judge you in any way to how extreme or not your actions are, however, I just want to say that in getting a response from HO in the form of a letter and voucher (which I would expect they will do) it does not mean they agree with you at all, it simply menas they do not want you to take your business elswhere. Chances are they wont even believe you, I am sure they get many 'minor' complaints like this daily and simply give them a £1 off voucher.

I expect once you calm down a bit you will realise this is pretty minor and although you were annoyed at the time there are more important things to get stressed about. I hope this is the most stressful thing in your life at this time :-)
