I suppose if something is cheap for the first 10 customers in a sale, that is also all right if 10 members of staff take it for them selves, after all they can still be customers?

I'll wait and see whether their head office agrees with me or you.

Actually, I used to do this job. Staff weren't allowed to do this. It would be far too easy for us just to mark something down to a few pence then stick it in the back early in our shift, when it could have been sold at full price.

We were allowed to take items off the shelf at the reduced price AFTER the customers had had a chance to take them. There is no way a working member of staff would have been allowed to lift an item from the shelf to mark down and take in the back for themselves. It would have been a disciplinary matter. I used to take reduced food home, but it HAD to be displayed for customers first.

Gingham, that was in response to OP comment about stuff in the sale, not reduced items. ;)

Oh heavens no! Not everyone is wrong! The one's that are wrong are those rediculing Tribulation about his 79p cakes, while totally missing the point about putting the customer first! :D

OP are you one of those that turns up at the reduction counter in full body armour with elbows wider than an albatross' wingspan and all the manners of Alan B'Stard?
