Morrisons staff putting things aside.

Safeway supermarkets hit trouble and most were bought up by Morrisons.
So supermarkets can and do go under.
Yes, they can, but like I said, and like this entire thread is about, this is Morrisons........ which like you pointed out......... swallowed up Safeway. You don't buy out other companies if you're in trouble yourself do you! Safeway was never (in the last 10 years anyway) one of the "Big" supermarkets was it, the same as you wouldn't class Lidl or Aldi as a big supermarket heavyweight. I never said that Morrisons "couldn't" go under, I said it "wouldn't".......... you can't say i'm not being realistic!0 -

What happened to the customer coming first?
Fine when the shop shuts, any that are unsold buy.
I've worked in retail and it's not an acceptable thing to keep sale items from going onto the shop floor, they're designed to get the customer in, not save the employee money.
They already have staff discount as a perk of the job.
No different to a shop advertising on the TV that somethings on sale for 75% off, only for none of them to actually be available because the staff have all kept the items back for themselves.
I can't be arsed to sit through 8+ pages of replies, but my take on your first post Tribulation...
Man up and get over it! It's a box of cakes!
I worked for a few years at Tesco, and there was a guy we christened "Bargain Billy" as he used to wander round every night at 7pm buying anything he could that had gone through "final reductions" and been reduced to 10p. If you hadn't done the final reductions of the day he would wander round the store and come back to your department and wait for you to do them. In the end myself and at least 4-5 other members of staff used to hide the reduced produce, and claim there was none left. Why did we do this? Because the guy was an irritant, buzzing round like a fly round !!!! ust waiting for the yellow sticker to go on the item.
I expect the Morrisons worker was fed up with someone blatantly waiting for the sticker to go on, that they "took them out the back" and waited a few minutes for you to go, before putting them back out on the shopfloor.
If you really wanted the cakes (which it seems like you did as you've wasted time posting a pointless thread and writing to Morrison's Head Office) then you'd have put them in the basket and walked off with them before they were reduced, rather than peer over the shop assistant's shoulder waiting to see how many pennies you could save. Failing that, I'm sure there were other boxes of them, at full price on the shelf..GREENS M'SHIP OFFER NOW CLOSED SO PLEASE DON'T ASK ME!Olympic Debt-free Challenge £2150/£11900 = 18.0%NOW INVESTIGATING AN ALTERNATIVE TO MY IVA - I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND ONE ANY MORE!0 -
So what we've established is:
OP wanted to buy cakes and had a conversation with partner regarding cakes.
Staff member reduced cakes then took them away. At no point did OP ask why cakes were being removed, but assumes it was to buy them and that it was very rude for the staff member not to give a running commentary of exactly what was going on.
This warrants a complaint to head office HOW?
When I'm at work, if I spot something that's not right and take it to the back to sort out, I don't brandish the items and shout "By the way, everybody, if you wanted to buy this, I'm taking it away. Speak now or lose this item!" I just get on with my job.
Now, in my job, I am also required to acknowledge customers and actively sell to them, as well as do ticketing etc, but even so, I learn to tune out conversation that's not actually directed at me, and enough people have made the "there's not price ticket, does that mean it's free?" joke that i just smile and nod and ignore it.
I expect that the staff member has heard enough people quip about being in the right place with the reduction gun that they didn't really care either way and just got on with the task at hand and if OP really wanted the cakes, they should have said something, rather than decide to make a formal complaint.0 -

Thank you, saved me a valuable few minutes of my life there

As an aside to this story,I was very impressed in my morrisons at about 5.45 I picked up 2 bags of reduced lemons for 49p,I was brousing the meat section and a member of staff came up to me and said you took the lemons I was just about to reduce further and promptly put a 9p sticker on each of them,I was very impressed that he followed me down the shop just to put these stickers on as i was happy to pay 49p.
Consider yourself lucky Angela, if you'd have been in the OP's local she'd have nabbed them out of your basket for herself :rotfl::rotfl:Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
