Indeed. I was merely correcting an error for the sake of future readers. :)
  • My latest e-mail exchange with SE. . .
I have quoted their most recent comments and commented back...

I started out being incredibly patient & polite but I'm afraid that was a mistake and I should have just resorted to filing a complaint with CC fraud team..

  • Having done some belated research I feel like a bit of a fool for even ordering from this company, this is my experience of Simply Electronics:
I ordered a gold phone for my daughter from this company. The website stated the item was in stock, 2-3 days. Within an hour, we realised we had ordered the wrong colour, she wanted white - which also happened to be £15 cheaper. So I immediately emailed customer services and requested that the order was cancelled so we could place a new one. I got a response almost immediately, saying they could simply cancel one order and place another on my behalf. I was very impressed at both the speed of response and the efficiency.
For the next few days I kept an eye on my account. I was slightly concerned that both orders still appeared to be live and in process. I emailed twice and was reassured that only one order was live and it would be with me soon.
Approximately 10 days after I placed the order, I received an email to say "Good news, my phones were both being packed". Again I emailed to say I only wanted one phone. The response was, "no problem, we will cancel the gold phone, but if we don't, you can just return it". The white phone arrived, and we are delighted with it. However a day or so later, an email arrived "Good news, your phone is on it's way". Yet another email went off to Simply Electronics, stating that I did not want this phone. Again the response was, if it arrives, send it back. The phone has never arrived, after a lot of aggregation.
Now, 2 weeks on, I am still trying to get the £15 refund for the difference in the cost of the phones, and the resounding silence from Simply Electronics is deafening. It is not possible to call them on their extortionately expensive customer service phone "Kindly note that we are currently experiencing technical difficulties with our hotline. We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. You may call us again later, or email us via our webform. We apologize for any inconvenience caused." Even though there is a legal requirement that companies cannot make a profit from complaints line. This company won't even allow you to call in at all.
I am sorely disappointed with a company who appeared to be very helpful at the start, but then failed dismally to follow through.
Unless you know exactly what you want, and are willing to wait at least 2 weeks to receive it, don't use this company.

You are referring to a UK legal requirement applying to UK based companies. Presumably Hong Kong law does not have the same provisions relating to Hong Kong companies. Hence they can charge you what they like to call them. Or they can decide not to take any calls from that number on the grounds that they are probably complaints, which will inevitably cost them money to resolve.

I too have been very silly and ordered from this company. They owe me £409. I am chasing through my Cahoot credit card but they are proving a nightmare as I they have a non-customer facing claims department. Simply use Skrill to take their money. Skrill hung up on me when transferring me to customer services when I wanted to complain but the first person that answered the phone did say they were aware of this company. They are still taking money for them though as "SKR Simply Electronics Ltd". Dissolved twice in the UK latest was 2013. I even tried phoning them - it's a one man band who pretends he has other departments but all he does is transfer you and then drop the call. Basically they are con merchants - take your money and then have no intention of delivering to you at all. They know you can't sue them and so your only course of action is through the credit card company who I am finding just as difficult. I've now warned credit card company I will take them to Financial Ombudsman Service if they don't sort it within 8 weeks.
  • I've now done what I should have done weeks ago and referred my claim to my CC fraud team.
They will contact SE's bank (which is UK based) and seek my refund through them.
Here's hoping I will be reunited with my cash soon. . .

  • Ho no ive just orderd a tablet from simply electronics. I thought they were uk based
  • I wish I'd read this before using simply electronics as otherwise I wouldn't have bought from them. I've now been waiting for two weeks for a phone that I ordered . I just called them to ask where it was only to be told that they were having problems with the supplier and that they couldn't tell me when it will turn up. They took the money out of my bank account on the day that I ordered it. When I asked to speak to a manager I was told that there wasn't one there so I told them that there should be one there only to be told that the managers were only available during the day. I pointed out that it was 4pm she said that it was 11pm there as the call centre is in the Philippines!
I still don't have my phone - they have my money £180 and I have no redress. Please, please don't have anything to do with this company i really wish i hadn't:(
  • Here's the email I sent the company. They keep on finding excuses not to send me the camera:

    Hello,

as you stated in your emailthat my feedback is very important, here it is and you will understand why I ama very unhappy customer:

    1- On 26/06/14 I ordered aCanon EOS 600 D body with 18-55 mm lens kit + 1 Mack 3 still digital Warranty

2- When I looked at myaccount on the Simply Electronics website, I got the following message"Please contact us by telephone or email".

3- On 04/07/14 Ava, customerservice officer, sent me the following email:" I will get back to you onceI get an update". Consequently I sent back an email asking for furtherdetails.

4- On 07/07/14 Clara, customer service officer, sent me a message with the followingsentence "Delivery can be expected within 2-4 days". Stillwaiting and no answer, I called the company and a lady said that the deliverywould take another 2-3 days. But then still no delivery so I sentanother email.

5- On 15/07/14, Diane, CSO,sent me an email saying "orders have been delayed"

Then I called your companyagain and Faye told me that the camera could not be sent to my address as itwas a school address and for security reason it was better to provideanother address. Had I not called, I would still be waiting for the camera tobe delivered as no one sent me an email about it. Still, I agreed to replacethe school email by my home email.

6- On 22/07/14, Faye sent mean indemnity letter which I filled in and signed as agreed.

7- On 22/07/14, Faye sent meanother email asking me to print out, sign, scan the document. I sent anotheremail saying that I do not own a scanner. Therefore, I was asking either to getthe camera or to get a refund

8- On 23/07/14, I amreceiving your email stating that I will get a refund and it might take up to 2weeks.

I hope you do understand whyI am unhappy. You might send me another email to apologize about thedifficulties I met with your company but that will not be enough. In 2 weekstime if I have not received the refund, I will have to sue your company as thisis malpractice.

Good luck!!! They know you wont sue as you probably don't know Hong Kong law, or have a Hong Kong solicitor, or would invest a few hundred quid an hour in suing them.

Go straight to your credit card company IMHO.
