what package were you on.... broadband and calls, or line rental aswell?

I was on a braodband and calls package. About 18 months ago I thinking of moving provider from Tiscali, which back then was a broadband package only, when I threatened to move. They offered me broadband for £5 plus a wireless router as long as I took my calls (not line) to them too. Been on this ever since, but when the recent letter came out to say there would be a small increase (200% !!!!!) I rang their upgrade line up. The agent offered me two months @ £7.50, half price but still £2.50 more than what I was paying. I turned it down and requested my MAC code.

Now going to Sky, taking my calls too, getting a new wireless router, all for £10 per month but getting first 6 months free. All in all over the year I will be paying the same amount (£5) per month as I am or was with Tiscali.
  • it seems that Tiscali had various price plans going on, whatever people would pay to get them to stay etc.... I suppose it makes sense for Talk Talk to knock all that on the head and streamline the accounts. Not advocating my 50% price increase of course. but I would imagine most companies taking over another, would do the same....?

I think bt is still more than the offer that TT emailed me a few days ago - you have to sign up for 18 months though.

" Recently we wrote to you welcoming you to TalkTalk to remind you that throughout 2010 we would be moving you onto the TalkTalk brand. We also informed you of some changes that will be occurring in February.

We are aligning all our customers' packages with the great value offers available within the TalkTalk group. This means that from 15th February, your current package will be changing to up to 8Mb superfast broadband (subject to line and location) with Anytime Talk and Line Rental at a monthly subscription of £22.48 a month †.

Sign up for 18 months and we'll also give you:
Your first 2 months at half price*
Upgrading only takes a few minutes and as soon as it's complete you'll be eligible for your next 2 months subscription at half price!
    Just visit talktalk.co.uk "

I'm not sure about free international calls (I don't do any international calls) but they say that they will charge half price for the first 2 months of the contract. I posted elsewhere to see if anyone got offered a better deal. I haven't signed the contract yet.

I have just moved from Tiscali/TT to BT+O2 broadband at a cost of 11.54+7.50=19.04 but with £75 cashback (now £50 I think) and 2 months free (which makes the O2 bit free for a year). A good saving so TT did me a favour hiking up the price. I'm getting 10MB rather than the previous 6.5MB too (even though I'm only on O2 standard ie up to 8MB).
  • Just agreed a deal with Talk talk £277.20 18 months contract. £15.40 per month. Ex Tiscali customer

Hi Anactuar, I am following the same path as you, today I phoned Tiscali to get a MAC code and I also started to transfer my phone line from Tiscali to BT. BT tell me that my line will move on 23/2. I am not sure when I can appy for a new BB package but I guess I have to wait until my line transfers to BT.

I am not planning to write to Tiscali to tell them I am leaving, when I spoke the them this morning I said that I wasnt happy with the new TT offer and I wanted to leave, they didnt try and convince me to stay and I got the MAC via email and Text in about 20 minutes.

I am assuming that by moving my line to BT (which BT say they will handle) its obvious that I am leaving.

Did this all work as planned for you? Did you have any problems and finally did you write to anyone to tell them that you were leaving Tiscali?

    Thanks.

I waited until my BT line was active. I used the AOL site to check when the line was showing as BT (just so I didn't get any cookies for O2 so as not to upset the cashback). It showed straight away. I had deactivated caller display with Tiscali and requested it free from BT (under the Privacy package), so I knew when the line had transferred over.

Interesting you got a MAC code. Tiscali told me I didn't need one and I didn't. BT don't need one to take back your line and you're not transferring broadband from anyone as the line is brand new (if you know what I mean).

I am a belt & braces guy hence I phoned the cancellations number (0800 something in one of my earlier posts on this thread), sent an email via the Tiscali website and a recorded delivery letter to the Evesham St address.

The girl on the phone said my account was already closed and I'd get a final bill after 7 days.

I got a call in response to the email - my account is closed and my final bill will be issued on 19 March. Not consistent with the above and pretty slow given I moved to BT on 1 Feb.

No response to the snail-mail letter so far.

I've had a couple of letters from Tiscali. One said they were sorry I'd decided not to proceed with my transfer *to* TalkTalk. Their admin really is poor.

In brief, it's been a lot easier than I thought so I would definitely recommend the move. The O2 router doesn't seem to let me use VOIP but I'm working on that. Good luck with your switch.
