  • Argh i dont want to pay £18 somthing a month. I dont even use my phone line for anything other then the internet, but options look very limited.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

I joined Tiscali in June 09. Does that mean I can cancel without penalty? Did you call the number on the letter 08712223311?

No you had a contract with them which had certain terms and conditions. As those terms have been changed without your consent the contract is null and void so you can walk away with no penalty.

Doesn't it seem pointless buying a company, then making all your customers leave through your awful deals?

No, because TT are making minimal or zero margin on non-LLU customers. So they're creating a situation whereby those customers are being charged more if they don't or can't come over to LLU.
They would rather be shot of these customers.
At the same time they are mailshotting everyone on a TT phone and line rental contract to encourage them to migrate their broadband to TT on the Essentials package-as long as they are on a TT LLU exchange.

Yes, it would seem that way but judging by several posts on these boards (including mine) they're not so keen to shut our accounts

Will Tiscali/TalkTalk issue a mac code if they haven't been told the line is moving from them?
This is where I think it gets complicated! This is the Ofcom guide:-

I am thinking of moving from Tiscali/Talk Talk to a BT phone and BE broadband (£7.50 per month for 40GB download.) Think I might give it a go in the summer when a failed transfer would be least disruptive to us!
If it goes well for you can you leave a post detailing how to do it, for those that follow. :D

You'd have to move your line back to BT first, and then the new ISP would accept a transfer to that number, which would once again be recognised as a BT line.
If you were moving to an ISP that was also providing your calls and line rental, then presumably the two would be moved simultaneously.

Given the MAC code only lasts for 30 days, would it be too tight to move landline to BT then pass MAC code to new broadband provider? ie would landline get moved in under 4 weeks do you think? May call plus net to see their take on it.

Does having a BT line mean paying BT for the line or just having a BT line into the house but pay the line rental to someone else?

No, you can have a 'BT line' without paying line rental to BT. Plusnet for example offer line rental.

  • Quick update for anyone interested in moving from TT to 2 separate providers (having spoken to BT and plus net). I need to move my landline to BT first (11 working days to keep same number, quicker if you don't) and can then move broadband to new ISP which will then recognise the line as a fully fledged BT line (my term). 11 working days is about 15 days, so it should fall well within the 30 days which the MAC code lasts. My approach will be to request my MAC code first then contact BT & set things rolling there. Will leave it for a few days as I don't want to lose the phone over the next couple of weeks.
