Stick with BT - they may not always have the fancy deals, but they won't mess you around as much as these guys do!
  • I've initiated the move back to BT. Once the BT line is active, I'll sort the broadband, so I'll only be without broadband for a week or so (I can't do it sooner as I don't have an active BT line!). TT have said I don't need a MAC code. That makes sense as my BT line will be treated as a new line ie one that's never had broadband on before.

I phoned TT (0800 542 6537) as still no letter!!

They said I'm going up to £22.48 when moved on to TT network (15th Feb?) More money for less and they don't care a hoot!!! Do what they like!!!

I am unsure what I am getting for £22.48. What happens to all my extras? Do they drop off or do I get charged??
He said I can get free Int. Calls, Caller Display and discount for 2 months BUT NO WAY AM I SIGNING UP FOR 18 MORE MONTHS!!!

I hate TT for doing this and will hopefully vote with my feet a.s.a.p (maybe o2 in March 2010)

They also said if I want to downgrade to the £18.48 package I have to agree to an 18 month Contract!!

Have done the same. :jGot this from Talktalk:
Once new service went live with your new ISP, you need to call our Cancellations Team to completely cancel your account and stop billing you for your Tiscali services on 0845 077 4488. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 9pm, Saturday, 8am to 6pm, Sunday, 9am to 5pm.

Will probably go for BEthere for BB.

Have you told TT you're leaving yourself? I understand it's best not to, and let BT take your line and number back. I have had nothing from TT (and I don't understand their grammar "Once new service went live"). I certainly don't expect to have to ring them to "completely cancel"; I'll be cancelling the direct debit and may write using recorded delivery just to be sure, depending on what I get from them.

Have e-mailed to advise I want to leave and they said just return to BT 1st. Gonna be without BB for a while but worth it in the long run. After reading a couple of stories of Tiscali chasing for non-payment after account closed years ago (on MSE) probably best to give them a call (0845 number). Make sure they confirm (and keep) any cancellation letters/e-mails.

Tiscali had a bad name but I didn't have a problem until TalkTalk tried to offer us a second rate service at an increased cost and 18 month contract to boot!

This is what I got from Talktalk:

We are sorry to learn that you wish to move your service to a new provider
We have received your MAC request and cancel your current TalkTalk service.
The phone exchange that supplies your landline to the address above uses a technology that means that your broadband, calls and line rental are supplied as an inclusive package on our TalkTalk network. The benefit of this all-inclusive service is that you have been able to enjoy our best priced packages.
If you wish us to place an immediate cease on your TalkTalk package or any part of it, this will automatically cancel your entire TalkTalk account. This includes losing your phone service, which means you will be unable to make calls from your telephone including 999 emergency calls.
In order to cancel your service with us, we therefore recommend you find a new telephony provider who will arrange the take over of your phone line from us to them on your behalf. They may also be able to take over your broadband or you can set this up once your new line is active with another provider.
Please note: If you have not already spoken to one of our agents about moving home or upgrading to a new TalkTalk product, you will need to call us on the number shown at the bottom of this email once your new service is live so we can cancel your TalkTalk account and stop billing for the services provided on your telephone number.
    Do I need a MAC?
If your new broadband provider has requested a MAC to transfer your broadband, please tell them you are currently on a MPF product and they will advise you accordingly how to set up their service.
    If you have TalkTalk TV
TalkTalk TV will automatically cancel when you TalkTalk account is cancelled. Please note you must call the number below to arrange the collection of your TalkTalk set top box. If you do not do this you will be charged £115 to your final bill.
    Other important information
Please be aware that if a Minimum Contract Period still applies to your contract with TalkTalk for your package, early termination charges may apply. However, as TalkTalk are increasing the price whilst you are in contract you will not be subjected to a cancellation fee.
If you have questions regarding transferring your services away or ceasing the services on your line, please call our Cancellations Team on 0845 077 4488. Lines are open from Monday to Friday, 8am-9pm, 8am-6pm during Saturday and 9am-5pm on Sundays, and calls are charged at 5p/min from a TalkTalk phone package. Calls from mobiles and other providers will vary.

OK noted. I've had problems with disputes over phone calls before, hence I always go for a letter. If it ends up in court, a recorded delivery letter is pretty indisputable.

When I originally called that number to get a MAC code (which I now know I don't need), I was told that as a Tiscali customer who was about to move onto a TT tariff, I needed to call 0800 5426537.
