    What good is that?! What if Windows become corrupt and you need to reformat the hard drive? You lose all software...

    I think i'll grab the product keys from the registry just in case.

    1. They'll be a recovery partition.
    2. It'll be OEM-SLP activation (no product key is required to be enter by the end user).
    3. An OEM-COA product key will be on a sticker underneath the laptop, in case OEM-SLP activation fails.

    i just looked at ours and on the bottom the product key is there on a sticker , so i will be taking a note of this incase u need to format but thats all you have , there no disc or copy of windows , but so im told thats standard with all new pcs now , u have to make ur own recovery disc and keep it and u have the product key on the back

    I own an official DVD of WIndows 7 so I can just use that with the product key found on the sticker. I will note down all the product keys I find of useful applications, then format the whole drive, removing whatever irrelevant things are installed. Things like Office, I have a disc for and I already use a free anti-virus called Avira so that will go on the laptop.

    I don't want to use a recovery disc, I like full control over the computer.

    An OEM-COA product key cannot be used to activate a Retail installation of W7.

    Really? So what am my options if I want to perform a format and cleanly install Windows 7?

    I'd like to ask is the software you get with the laptop/notebook/PC on CD/DVD? and not just pre-installed? Also, is Windows on it's own DVD disc with product key sticker?

    All software and O/S are supplied without CD/DVD copies, and no product keys either

    1. Use recovery partition or;
    2. Obtain an OEM disc specific to your brand of computer.

    Received our laptop yesterday from positive it, said 5 days delivery but came in 2 so would definately recommend. Just wanted to say thanks to all who've contributed information on here (have kept up with it om my frends laptop) and it has been most helpfull in selecting which company and which laptop to go for. Went for the samsung R519 2GB, its great and very much appreciated by my son who will no longer have to give up lunch or break to do his on line homework! I did have to remove netintelligence as even though I folowed instructions to the letter several times it wouldn't let me get on ANYTHING! I do agree however that it isn't that people who work but are on very low incomes can't get this help.
