would just like to say i totally understand the annoyance of the parents in wales and scotland as EVERY child counts , it should be free for all UK children , and can also see the the annoyance when people say oh im going to use this as a christmas present , dont know what others ticked on the application form but there was a box to tick if you would like your childs school notified that they had received a free laptop , i ticked it as then the school know our child has internet access

I'd like to ask is the software you get with the laptop/notebook/PC on CD/DVD? and not just pre-installed? Also, is Windows on it's own DVD disc with product key sticker?

    Not sure about the latter.

As for Scotland and Wales, we need our own Government/Assemblies to get involved, make money available for these schemes. Scotland has a different education system to England (not sure about Wales), so I can see why we aren't included in this. The SNP need to wake up to this, it's important, computers/internet are a massive part of our and our childrens' futures. That isn't going to change, we need to make sure no child is left behind, due to economic circumstances.

its all pre installed , i asked about this incase u ever needed to format , but was told there is a recovery point ...take it back to factory settings
and all the software is installed , i didnt receive a single disc with mine
as i was going to use Bli education to get mine as they were offering £570 worth of educational software , but after speaking to them was told that the £570 worth of software didnt come as in discs to install but all pre installed , which i found a bit pointless as the age range was from age 3 to adult , and a 13 year old doesnt really want ABC buckle my shoe on there laptop do they

What good is that?! What if Windows become corrupt and you need to reformat the hard drive? You lose all software...

I think i'll grab the product keys from the registry just in case.

few years ago not many homes had pc's but we got to face facts they are the way of the world now , we have a 2 and half year old who goes to nursery and they have already started to show him simple things on a laptop , they do some prog age 3+ and , as hes bright for his age they use a postman pat software that as already taught him colours , numbers and shapes , years ago when we were at school if we wanted to find anything out for our homework or a project we had to go to a library or read endless books just to find 1 answer , with a pc its all there and its amazing :j

I agree, our 2.5 year old loves things like the Wheels on the Bus app on our iPod Touch for example, at his nursery they have a computer (basic) and a teacher who comes in. It is necessary now. Ok so it's not life or death to have them, but don't we all want our children to be the best they can be? Children are our workers of the future, whilst we all provide what we can, the Government should be helping the most disadvantaged children, I have no problem with that. it's not the childrens fault (most often not the parents either) but they shouldn't be left behind/ignored because of it.

i just looked at ours and on the bottom the product key is there on a sticker , so i will be taking a note of this incase u need to format but thats all you have , there no disc or copy of windows , but so im told thats standard with all new pcs now , u have to make ur own recovery disc and keep it and u have the product key on the back

Indeed. Tell that to your parliament / assembly.

They're different jurisdictions, as per the wishes of the majority.
