I find it disturbing that they included Windows 7 on a low powered netbook/laptop with only 1GB of RAM, that's going to be very sluggish.
No, 1gb RAM is fine for W7. It's the running of RAM intensive programs that may struggle.

they are not meant for playing games thou , thats why they aint giving really expensive laptops out , they are for learning and school work

as for opening up a laptop and insering more ram i not got a clue
i went for the samsung as its a duel core ...im not very clever with pc's but was told that the samsung was the better of the 2

    spec on samsung
    15.6" LED SuperBright display
    Celeron Dual Core T3100 1.90GZ
    1GB memory
    160GB hard drive
Intel GMA X4500M DVMT Graphics Chip

    spec on toshiba
    15.6” TruBrite® display
    AMD SEMPRON 2.1GHZ
    1GB memory
    160GB hard drive
ATI Radeon™ HD 3200 Graphics Chip
dont think much between them but reading the forums u would pay around 30-40 quid for some more ram
a friend looked at them for me and advised to fo for the samsung althou he did say that there isnt really much between them , i reccomnded this one as the site positive IT did this one with an extra gb and there customer service is very good , and took 3 days to deliver :-)

I know these aren't meant for games, I am just saying the directx 10 card is just way better than that GMA and is worth considering, however you mentioned something I forgot to consider....dual core. The Sempron is single core so ok, I agree with you, the Celeron dual core with 2GB ram is the best choice!

Hi ,just like to say I actually do pay for my prescriptions, would also like to comment on at one time I did a calculations for benefits (not that I am on any )but found benefits were more down England .After all if it is suppose to be the United Kingdom then we all should be treated the same and without you being defensive I agree with you when it comes to your health we should all be treated in the same way .I did not personally attack you I do however accuse the government for putting a divide between us all .
(As for subsidizing was that after the oil , I don't vote as they are all lining there own pockets and kids here have nothing there is no community centers and no where to go .My point still being as we all live in the UK we should all that is everyone be treated the same :T:heart2::idea: )

Windows 7 asks if you want 32 or 64bit during installation. Included with the Samsung laptop is the Celeron Dual Core T3100 and according to this website the T3100 is a 64 bit processor.

According to the MINIMUM specifications of Windows 7, you need AT LEAST 1GB just to run the 32 bit version but since it makes sense to use the 64 bit version (because you have a 64 bit processor), the MINIMUM specification is 2GB RAM.

From this, it shocks me to see systems with only 1GB of RAM and using Windows 7 (regardless of whether it's 32bit or 64bit). The bare minimum specifiactions is just enough to run Windows and will result in a slugglish system unless you turn off most of the pretty visuals which sort of defeats the purpose of using Windows 7 in the first place!

Surely you are wasting a 9 months of them getting use out of it for school work though? Why not tell them where it came from?

YOU haven't, the government as provided this scheme to help children, not for parents to keep them back and give them to them for a christmas present.
Why not be honest to your children?

its for the childs education , not to give parents an easy xmas
personally i would feel guilty passing off a free educatioal gift as a xmas present , what you going to tell them when they see the education logo on start up and all the software thats included ? they will miss out on 9 months use and 9 months warranty too , lol i like how u describe yourself as crafty !!!
