You can only have the laptops/PCs that are on offer under the scheme, not just anything that comet are selling. I do not think this one comes under this scheme.
  • yes, your right we went to comet and they only had a choice of one so we ended up getting the r519 little girl loves it so thanks to everyone on here

Well, I have just tried using the 3G mobile broadband on a train into London Waterloo, and it has been absolutely abysmal.
I had aboiut 5 minutes around Bracknell, and then was only able to connect again at Twickenham (20 minutes later).
I checked their coverage maps before buying, and can on ly describe them as "optimistic".
If I had known it would be that bad I would not have chosen 3G, and discounted the free second year from my considerations.

A lot of people moan about the speed of 3G but around here it is fab.

I've used the dongle at home, and also tried it at work the other night (I do sleep ins so 'off duty' overnight) and it is just as fast as any broadband connection we've ever had at home. Both postcodes showed a full service on the coverage map.

It doesn't work at my fil's and the coverage map indicates that it probably won't - he is in a very rural area and it says outside coverage only up to roughly the boundaries of his property but it was hard to say from the map.

I used it while waiting for my dd to attend an open evening the other side of town the last week too.

Saying that, we can't get a decent broadband connection on this line so I guess it depends on what sort of speeds you are used to...

I have 3 mobile btw and I'm adding this for those who are a bit worried, as I was after reading the reviews on here.

I think it is a case of keeping an open mind until you know for sure...

our 3 dongle is great, we have good connection and it is perfect for my daughter. i am sure she will be best pleased when she gets it for a 2nd year! also regarding the 2gb allowance a month, we have been connected for 20 days so far and she has used less that 1gb so i dont think it will be a problem to her, if she ever has to commute to london i will be sure to warn her of slow speeds!!!
we are finding the open office not as good as microsoft office, doesnt have clipart (you can download it but i think it is seperate files for different types of pictures!) also doesnt have the templates for leaflets and cards etc, she needed to make a leaflet for homework and it didnt have the necessary software, but apart from that it is fantastic!

Yes, but how do you know for sure until you've got it?

Yes, that's the problem, but as there is only two choices with this particular deal, I think it's a case of going with the one that looks best on the coverage map tbh.

I was concerned people may be put off the 3 dongle when it may well work perfectly well for them iyswim?

I was quite concerned after reading some posts on here and considered TMobile even though I know the signal in this area is poor to say the least - I did wonder if even a poor service would be better than that appalling service from 3 that people talk about on here iyswim?

As it happens, it is great and I'm glad I gave it a chance.

    Yes you can.

Call the helpline number on the Home Access website and they will send you an application form.

You will need a recent Child Benefit letter (from Dec 08 onwards) so you may want to ensure you have that and order one asap from the Child Benefit agency if you don't. :)
