Good morning all from snowy Berkshire!

I haven't seen anything like this since I was a small child in the sixties. Does anyone else have a washing line that is six inches deep? It's surreal and we can't work out why the weight of it hasn't made it fall.

OH is snowbound at home with me taking conference calls etc - how did we manage before laptops etc?

Off to do a pile of ironing which is a great way to keep warm.

Great thread this - congrats to whoever had the original idea!

    :j to keep warm

    Hi,
Oh Im down in the dumps now. I have everyone at home and cant wobble for kids stuff, drying shoes and clothes. The house is a tip and I cant get anybody to help me. Ive just resorted to my screaming banshee routine but kids cant see that there is anything wrong so I must be mistaken:eek: The thing is Ive had them at home since the week before xmas and I need space to sort stuff and my poor head. I also cant go out and am confined to the house as even the garden is a total ice-rink. Cant see it getting better for a few days either. Why is it we ground to a halt. My friend lives in Bavaria with perma frost and much worse conditions and manages to keep going!

My DS1 is doing my head in - asked him to have a shower just now and he bit my head off. I think i might just retreat to my bedroom and stay there all day.

Sorry needed to vent. Thanks for listening.

    Keep safe,
    Mollyxx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Hi all
Somehow, though heaven knows how my milkman has made it through & delivered the milk, the poor soul was probably worried people would cancel the deliveries if he didn't turn up. No-one can find his tyre tracks, so he may have used a 4x4. A friends husband has been collected by his MD in his 4x4 as they are desperate to get orders out.
There are 6 men outside trying to dig a van & a car out that are stuck the vehicles can't get any grip & their wheels are just spinning, but the snow is frozen solid so it's hard to dig.
There are 20 men trying to dig the railway bridge & hill to the main road clear, the coucil gritters can't grit the bus route as the hill & bridge are too steep, hubby has gone to help.
My ear is no longer painful & seems to have stopped bleeding, but I'm incredibly deaf, I'm still waiting to hear if school is open tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'll go in even if it is, if my ear is still ok & the bridge is clear I will do.
    Keep warm & safe everyone.
    Hugs Hester

We had more snow in the night, but school is still open. WE got really cold and wet as it snowed heavily on the way home yesterday. I will need to do some baking as I end up feeding the kids on the way home (bribery works well) I'm not just feeding my kids but all the ones we walk home with. If it snows again this afternoon then I'm not taking the kids to school tomorrow - I've had enough. I will end up getting shopping in for more of the neighbours tomorrow if the snow hasn't cleared, and it's hard work carrying the shopping and a crying 4 year old up a steep bank in the snow!

OS wise I have tidied DS2 room and need to start on DS1, I've got a load of washing done and another load in the machine. Dinner tonight will be standard Thursday night dinner of pasta and sausages, although there is no Beavers tonight so I could do something different:rolleyes:

I am starting to get really fed up with not being able to go anywhere, I can last another week with the food I have (topped up with visits to the greengrocer/ mini tescos) but I'd like to go the library, buy some more thermal undies for DS and get some plastic storage boxes to go in the attic with the kids old clothes in.

Hugs to all that need them

:T:T:T my DH has been struggling on his rounds this morning but is now on the way home - didn't get to deliver it all - the milk and orange juice froze on the float and the lids popped off! first time its ever been cold enough to do that! He's had a few close escapes on the ice this morning!
I'm cooking him some sausage baps for when he gets home at about 1pm.

Molly - (((hugs))) head to bed with a hot drink and chocolate or biscuits and a good book and leave them to it!

Thriftlady - sounds lovely - snowmen, hot chocolate and flapjacks:T

edited to say MARTIN is about to be on loose women!
edited again to say that last statement doesn't sound quite right:rotfl::o:D

I remember reading ages ago that you can never change another person, only yourself. But by changing what you do it can have a direct effect on others. (Sorry if this sounds trite.) What I would do in your shoes is think "sod the housework and the muddle" and go and have a nice scented bath then go and do something fun. Play something daft with the kids or have a make-up session with the DDs if you have any? You might even get some co-operation afterwards. If they see you more relaxed they'll probably become nicer to be around.

    Afternoon Everyone

Stuck indoors again, can't take ds2 out due to his leg. Did order a sledge earlier this week but called the store and they are awaiting stock. Never mind thought it was a bit too hopeful. At least ds1 managed to get into work today so the house is a bit more peaceful as they are not winding each other up. My stepdad did me an emergency run to the shop and got me milk and bread as I can't go out. I have contacted the dr re ds2 as he appears to have an infection/redness round the metal pins in his leg, am awaiting a phone call back as don't want to risk him slipping on the ice going there.

Molly - really feel for you, my eldest was like this yesterday, he drives me round the bend and makes me feel so angry:mad:.

lunch today is egg mayonaise sandwiches, this evening we will be using up the gammon in a pea and ham soup.

Still trying to get motivated to sort out the lounge, will try and at least clear the presents out.

Hugs to anyone who needs or wants one. Take care all.

    Lynne
