OS DAILY THURSDAY 7th January

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 7th January. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning all,
Hugs to all in need, Well just found out dd1 and ds2's school have decided to close again so it is only ds1 who will be off to school today (he won't be pleased when he gets up)
Woke up thinking it must be around 6am only to come downstairs and notice it was actually 2.45  I really wish i could get a decent nights sleep.
My mum is hopefully coming over today if the busses are running which should be nice.
Dinner today will be something with mince or sausages i haven't quite decided yet.
Right i'm off to watch some mundane programmes on telly to see if i can get back to sleep,
Take care all xx

Morning heavenleigh and all who follow.
Well jetlag is confusing my body hence me being up so early! Hopefully I'll just potter round for an hour then go back to sleep!
It is bitterly cold in my flat. My Dad thinks that lots of my neighbours have been away too so no-one has been heating their flats either! I've turned on all my storage heaters overnight so hopefully it will be toasty warm in few hours.
I was very glad of my OSness yesterday. I arrived home from airport/train journey round 3pm, and took out some frozen milk, frozen HM bread and frozen HM celery soup from freezer. I had some toast, and then the soup and bread for dinner. Just what I needed to heat my body up. I've gone from 30 degrees in New Zealand to minus 3 here! I also put a load in WM and put the BM on too.
Today I need to see if my car will start. Hopefully it will so I can go to supermarket. I have plenty of food here in store cupboard and freezer but no fresh stuff like salad, eggs, cheese etc. I have longlife milk so if needs be I can wait few days. I could walk to a supermarket as there is one about 20mins walk away but I wouldn't be able to carry much home! If car doesn't start I have AA cover so will ring them to come out whenever.
Today I will need to do more washing, finish unpacking, general tidy round, upload all my picturesand sort out bits and bobs like paying bills and updating my 2010 diary.
Have a good day all, will post later

Good morning Heavenleigh - I've been up early today, too. I have a nagging cough that keeps me awake at night; it's something that's doing the rounds here at the moment. I shall be glad when it's gone. We're an hour ahead of you here, so it's not as early for me as for you! Hope you manage to get some sleep. I'm hoping to, or I'll be dead on my feet for the rest of the day!
Snow started falling last night but it's still too dark to see if it's settled. We have no street lighting so it's still pitch dark outside and I'm not actually going to go outside to find out yet! It was forecast to be minus 8 degrees overnight so it's still very cold.
I phoned my boys and their families last night to see if they were coping with the weather. They've all been snowed in and I was relieved to find out that none of them have tried to go further than the garden. The children are beside themselves with excitement about so much snow - it's more than they've ever seen before. I've been promised photos of snowmen over the next few days.
I hope you are all coping with the dreadful weather. Ours is pretty bad but nowhere as bad as we've seen on the UK news.
Well, last night's chicken stew was amazingly delicious, and there's enough left over to have again tonight. Perfect food for cold weather.
We took the Christmas decorations down yesterday and it feels good to be all tidy and organised - at least until DH has finished the room that will become our next sitting-room. We'll start using that over the weekend, so he can then get on with working on the room we are using at the moment. I'm not looking forward to moving all the furniture again but it will be worth it because the new room will be completely finished and will be somewhere to sit in peace without being reminded about all the renovation going on!
Anyway, off to try and get some more sleep.

Welcome Gemma, sounds like you have made a great start to the MSE/OS life!My gas fire stopped working on Tues night so yesterday was a cold day. We only just had it serviced so a little peeved. We had four inches of snow and so the home help couldn't come but we did manage to get the Christmas decorations down and packed away. Treacle the cat sulked all day - kept sitting on the hearth and practically sticking her nose in the fire and then turning around and meowing reproachfully at us. And she was most affronted that she had to pick her way across the snow when she went out.
I ate nothing but rubbish yesterday. Only good part is, I suppose, that I ate up some more of the Christmas cheese and crackers.Todays OS-iness will be to polish the sideboard and move the plants back in from the office where they have been holidaying. I also need to ask the home help (if she turns up) to sort out the washing as there are about 3 loads all waiting to be folded and put away. My OH keeps complaining he doesn't have any underwear cos the ones in his drawers are not the ones he likes to wear.. No, I have no idea why they are there in that case either.Casserole and baked pots for dinner and prob more cheese and crackers for me for lunch and soup for the OH. We have only spent £5 in 4 days (including parking for the bank) which is fab!I hope your day today is the best it can be for everyone, and that those under the weather feel better. With love and light to all.
Diva.xTo be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough. If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I will try again tomorrow.0 -
Moiliere - yes it is a tad of shock to the system , but I love snow so it's not too bad! You have just reminded me that I need to take down my Xmas decorations. I only have a fibre optic tree, long strand of tinsel and some fairy lights stuck up so will take all of 5 mins to do! I may even leave the lights up as they look pretty against my glass brick wall.
I also have leftover currency to change back so will do that today if car works, or tomorrow if I have to walk in. I have never come back from holidays with money! I budgeted £1000 spending money (I know that's a lot but it was a dream trip and we were doing lots of excursions) but I have come back with around £400

Coooooeeeeeeeeeee,
I took DGS home yesterday. It's been a lovely week. I can't believe the weather you're having. No that's not true DH is updating me every 5 minutes. I know every snow flake that falls. Fancy that, it looks like after experiencing an extreme summer I will probably get to experience an extreme winter. :rolleyes:I sure know when to come.
I have a list to *do* as long as your arm but I won't bore you with the details, unless you want to go to sleep. The bingo jackpot went off on Monday night and I wasn't the winner.
I'm just off to start a thread about a possible meet so hopefully a few of us can make it. The more the merrier.
Off to make a cuppa & swallow a few headache pills.Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -

Good morning,
I didn't post yesterday as I had a poorly house elf. He was up most of Tuesday night with a high temperature and a headache. By lunchtime yesterday he was talking non stop again, so I thought he was on the mend. I was right. I had to go into him twice before 10pm last night, but then he settled and slept until this morning. He's up early because I put him to bed early yesterday as we were both tired.
No school for him today, so I've invited his friends round. Plans are to make fairy cakes, shortbread and some Twinks. The house needs hoovering, but I'll leave that until tomorrow. There's no point when there's going to be a gang of biscuit eating children running round.
MSD I let our cat out for a look at the snow. Watching her try to walk on tiptoe through it was very funny!
Take care all of you0 -
I'm glad I'm not the only one that can't sleep in this cold!
Have been making a cat blanket to donate from some left over yarn, but I can't do any more work on it, because a certain cat, who shall remain nameless, is sleeping on it!
At least it meets the cat approvals...0 -
Morning all
Nice to see you back Diva, but take some time to take care of yourself.
Hugs to Jayward, sorry the house elf was poorly Cranky.
What a time to visit Aussie.
I've no idea what I'm doing up this early as school is closed again today. I read on a local website that we've had 12 & half inches, but i think it's only 8. I think someone didn't do their metric/imperial conversion correctly, either that or it was a 'man measurement'.
Keep warm & safe everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning Cranky, one of my cats love the snow, she goes out in it up to her middle and bats bits of it in the air then chases it! Mind my rabbits are lunatics too, when i went out the other day they were ignoring the lovely warm hay filled hutch and sat with an inch of fallen snow on their heads :rotfl:
Pink, don't ya just love them, one of mine (i have 4) always smells of washing powder, i wonder why that is
Good morning Hester :rotfl:@ 'man measurement' we all know that their 6" isn't quite as much as ours :eek:I will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
