    Morning all,

My boys' school has opened because the bus operaters say they can provide a service but I'm very worried because the radio keeps going on about how icy one of the islands and roads is on their route. I'm not sure I've done the right thing in sending them off today. Keep having visions of overturned school buses:eek:

Dd's school is closed. Ironic really as we can easily get there on foot as can most of the pupils and staff. Needless to say the boys are pretty hacked off with the situation.

Last night OH got home in the same time he usually does, but I'm worried about the ice today. I'm waiting for him to call and say he's arrived.

So another day at home without much to do really. I could make some more bread I suppose so that I'm well stocked. I think I'll be adding some more granny squares to my pile and watching dvds. Dd will be out in the snow all day again I expect.

-9.3 here according to the thermometer. DD wondered how much she needed to wear to go to the bus, to try and get to work. I think she will be OK as it's service bus on main roads. DS another matter. He hasn't come home yet, but not sure the school bus will be going. School is open though, but about 10 miles away. If the school bus doesn't run then I'm not going! It won't hurt to have another day off. DH is in the east of england for work, so don't know how he will fare today. Talking of coming home tonight, which could be interesting.

Will try and think of a hot meal that veggies and non veggies can share tonight. It seems to me that comfort food is called for. DS has said that he will go to the shops if there is no bus. Not sure what supplies are like. Could do with some milk, although we have a little left and some powdered, can manage without eggs.

Plenty to do here without leaving the house so I shan't! Stay warm and stay safe folks.

SunnyGirl - I smiled at the thought of your dog being pleased at being sent doggy hugs:D :T

    Jayward (((hugs)))

    Molly and DS(((hugs)))

DH has gone on his milkround - not heard from him yet how he's doing but most of his rounds are down untreated country lanes but he's sensible and wont risk anything - just not worth it.

DS text to say his car wont start so he's getting a lift in to work in a landrover so I'm pleased he's not driving :jas the road round Worcester are supposed to be very icy.
I decided not to send DS2 to college even though its open as the route is not a good one and I dont want another day worrying about him like Tuesday.

OS ish things for today - washing on its final spin then will be hung indoors
tea is something simple like sausage egg and chips - nice stodgy food:D - veggie sausage for me. Lunch is some sort of veggie soup with crackerbreads or a jacket spud depending on how I feel later.

I left the heating on all night last night:eek::p:D just lowered the thermostat. Never done that before but didn't want the house cold for DH this morning when he got up.The dogs weren't complaining either:D

Hope you all have a great day - stay warm and safe x

Well DS2 & DS3 got half way to school (walking) when I had a text from the school saying that it was shut again today. I know that it's hard to foresee these things but the text came at 8.20am when most of the children would surely have left already

They're back and changed out of their uniforms now and are ready to watch some more dvd's etc. They are getting fed up of playing in the snow as we've had it on the ground since the 2nd week of December :rotfl: although that may change later.

I've done the ironing now & dusted the living room and just going up to clean the bathroom then hoover downstairs. More knitting for me later too I think.

Indeed. I had a text from Grumpy's school at 1:45pm yesterday telling me there was no school today. Looking at the road outside, unless there's a miracle thaw this afternoon, I'm hoping it will be closed tomorrow too.
  • Hi all, me again!

I left for work, went outside and there's just a layer of compacted ice. Being young and reckless I have no suitable footwear (my walking boots are still at mum's) so I went out, nearly slipped twice before I'd got about 10 feet and decided to come home. I have an old knee and ankle injury which happened at school (both happened doing things I shouldn't have been doing :D ) which I needed physio on and took years to heal so I don't want to risk slipping and landing on my knee or twisting my ankle. So I'm at home for the time-being, waiting to see if it improves but I doubt it. So I'm currently sitting in front of the tv watching Dog The Bounty Hunter  I know...

Need to do some tidying and organising so hopefully I'll get that done today. Put some washing overnight so that's drying in front of the radiators. Hoping that'll dry because I need to do another load before tomorrow!

Hope everyone is ok, and those with kids manage to keep them occupied without various civil wars occurring! Positive thoughts for all :j

    Caroline xx

carolin i know exactly how you feel, i fell over and broke both bones in my lower arm/wrist last new years day (drunk me? never) and i am having terrible trouble with pain even now 12 months later, the once carefree wear heels in snow lets go sledging down hills faster than the kids me has well and truely gone i am petrified of slipping over and breaking it again!

Pleased to say both my boys are safely at school and OH safely at work. Now I've just got to worry about them coming home. Dd is shovellling snow off the drive bless her.

I'm off to crank out some more bread.

    Morning all :)

Still snow here - no more overnight though. I debated not coming to work today - only 7 of us in yesterday; as usual those that come furthest made it where as those that could walk stayed at home, I must admit I do have a case of the slightly grumpy "well, if I can get to work from where I live, then you have no excuse" syndrome, but I'll get over it. I'd just get bored at home :) Buses are running fine - they are stopping before the end of the route, but it's not far to walk and the main roads are clear. I have parcels to post and the post office closed early, which annoyed me.

Jackie - glad your DD got home safely. My mum works in Gillingham and has to come in from Maidstone - it took her ages to get home too.
Hester - :rotfl: at man measurement

I phoned my parents last night and it is the worst possible case with my dad's van - there is a massive amount of damage to the on-board control systems and computers, but not enough to write it off totally. He has no idea how long it will be before he can work again and is distraught :( He is forced to take out the over-priced commercial insurance provided by the franchise issuing company and they are being awful and really slow. They won't accept help from me at the moment :( If we didn't have snow, I'd hire a van and go down to collect his stock from the holding centre - but we can't do it. I need to talk to him when my mum isn't around because I can make him see sense quite easily where my mum is far more stubborn. *sigh* parents *sigh*

Ebuyer have cancelled my computer order. I need to place it again apparently *sigh* I don't understand why it is so much hassle.

I'm fighting my tax forms *sigh*

Oswise I made cookies last night then promptly sat and ate them all. Yesterdays food for me *hangs head in shame* consisted of half a box of chocolates, a batch of warm lemon cookies, two litres of diet coke, four cups of coffee and a piece of fruit cake. I did cook for OH - which made it worse, I'm just not hungry so pick all day. I will try harder today - if I can be bothered/or have time :) I had fruit cake for breakfast again, so I haven't started well.

I made some earrings last night, but haven't finished hanging them properly. They look like oreo cookies. On the folksy forum we are doing a craft swap for valentines day - so I have to make a heart and I'm not quite sure what to do at the moment, but I guess I'll think of something.

Right - must go and feed cells, or they will complain :) Stay warm and safe everyone, cel x
