What is the best Mastercard prepaid card to use for Ryanair transactions only??

  • Hi all

i went in to Phones4u shop today and got escape card - loaded it up - came home and it is NOT being accepted by Ryan air as prepaid mastercard - I cannot contact them as it is the weekend - the four numbers at the start are 5195 - I also saw today that you can buy £25 prepaid gift cards at Clintons Cards - but dont know if they will work either.

From what I can tell if I upgrade my Escape card (currently I can only load £650!)

Other than that it would appear to be quite a good card - costs £9.95 - no fee for using (to pay for things) - you can lodge cash onto it for free in the phone4u shops and it is 3% anywhere that does paypoint.

Will try again later just in case my card isnt valid yet for some reason.

  • Sorry - left a bit out above!

Was going to say I have the option to upgrade the card to a higher limit but it still seems to keep the 5195 starting number
  • Hi Again

Just to update - have tried it again and the phones4U card is now working - successfully booked flights and really pleased!!

are Escape card fees better than Neteller's? Is it free to load and free on Points of Sales?

after my ridiculous carryon with neteller - who cares? I have deposited 200 pounds with them and cannot currently get a card to spend it with as the photo I sent of my passport is apparently not readable - it is. I cannot get the 200 pounds paid back into my bank account until i have upgraded to this card so I'm in a catch 22. I wish I'd never heard of neteller and will be contacting my bank tomorrow to withdraw my money and go and get an escape card. why do they need 2 forms of identification when the most you can have on your card is £1650 - it's hardly bank robbery proportions is it?

Once you get extended account your maximum increases to 36,000, which a pretty substantial amount. I think the account identification is somethign legally required. If it was up to Neteller, I am sure they or any other similar business would love to sign in as many people as possible. I simply took picture of my most recent bank statement and id card against a wall and had my account extended in 2 days. My card arrived very fast as well.

still no word from neteller - i've sent scan of photograph and credit card bill - twice - and I've hit a brick wall. all I want to do now is get my £200 back as i have no intention of doing any business with them at all but, guess what, i can't get my money back until I've upgraded my account and i can't do that because my passport was "unreadable". what do they need to read? the passport number is completely readable so what's the problem? i have had 2 live chats with them but still to no avail. Meanwhile my flights are going up and up.

For neteller read paypal, they'll lock your account for almost any reason. Just do a search to see some examples.

Fortunately for me I decided to try to get the Neteller card before I loaded any money into the account, so I now just have a redundant Neteller account.

My Escape card arrived yesterday so hopefully I'm good to go... BTW, it takes about 1 working day to transfer funds into the Escape account using Faster Payments. I assume the other loading methods (which aren't free) are faster.
