Hi all (waves) great thread - Can I join too? I a not a SAHM just yet but after alot of thought will be from sept. My last little one will be due to go to nursery and I am currently exhausted working. My and DH worked out we will only be £160 worse off a month when I am not working soooo the plan is pay as much debt off between now and sept! Then I can be at home till one goes to school at which point I will find it easier and cheaper to go back to work. So i would love to see how others are getting on and gather some good budgetting ideas. We are living from Jan on the budget we will have in Sept so this will help us get an idea of what it will be like!

    Nov 2012 - Loan £1200, CC1 £1450
    CC2 £1300, CC3 £100
    Next £200

    I will get rid!!!!
  • I used to make up bottles the night before for the next day and store them in the fridge and my daughter is perfectly healthy. New mums need support and short cuts not to be lectured at and made to feel inadequate. I also used to lay out mine and my daughters clothes for the next morning, one less thing to think about when juggling a baby and everything else.

Hi, can I join in too please? I've been a SAHM for the previous year to my little man Noah, who's 9 and a half months. I'm just going back to work now (only part time) as a teacher, but the plan is to be a SAHM after we have had another baby, and we're ttc now. So hopefully won't be back at work for too long!
My biggest 'problem' is that Noah is crawling and climbing, and so I can't take my eyes off him for a minute. Which is not a problem in itself, but it leaves me little time to do anything else, just his nap times. And he's just developed a hatred of the hoover (welcome to the club!) so I can't do that when he's around unless DH is here. But those are minor problems really, I love being a mummy! Looking forward to chatting to everyone and Happy New Year!

  • The other thing I used to do about once a month or so was take photos in daylight of her clothes that don't fit anymore and come the evening when she was in bed, I'd list them on ebay. That cuts down on clutter and also makes a bit of spare cash.

Shortcuts, thats what we need - list your shortcuts!

Shortcut or top tip number 1- ONLY DO THINGS ONCE A DAY!

Bottles- I leave these unrinsed and unwashed at the far side of the sink out of the way then I wash all 6 once a day, in the morning. Its the first thing I do in the day.
Wash, rinse and straight into the steraliser with all 6.
I boil the kettle while the stealiser does its thing. While the kettle cools I unload the dishwasher which I always run at night before bed. I load up a load of washing and thats the washing done. I do at least one load a day.
I make up 6 bottles with water and formula SO SHOOT ME!! then I cool in a sink of water then into the fridge and thats that done for the day.

So thats all bottles, dishes and washing sorted in under 20 mins.

I then sort DD out with breakfast, feed the dog and get baby up, fed and dressed.

I'm up at 7.30am every morning so I'm usually organised with the basics done for half 8/9 am

I hoover the LR, and hall once a day, and the rest of the house every 2 days. I dust every 2 days cos its a dusty house. The kitchen is given a quick clean every night and a good clean once a week. The bathroom is done 3 times a week and the kitchen and hall floors washed twice a week.

The washing comes straight out the TD and gets folded and put upstairs there and then so it doesn't pile up in the kitchen. I rarely iron:eek:

I never go to bed and leave an untidy kitchen, I always do the dishwasher and clean down the bunkers before bed so I can start from fresh in the am.

I never go up or down the stairs empty handed!

I have a basket where clean clothes go in the babys room until I have time to put away so they are tidy.

The baby chums me round in his bouncy chair while I shower, tidy, cook and anything else I may need to do.

I find if I can get all the wee bits done I have plenty of time for everything else like paperwork, gardening clearouts and such like.
I go to M & T once a week, baby massage and baby clinic once a week. I also try to get out the house for a bit every day with the pram when weather permits!

I'm currently a SAHM mum and I'm still winging it, no sign of getting into a routine yet! I'm normally the most organised person, but the only organised right now is the diary of Andrew's many appointments. I'll keep an eye on this thread for hints and tips!

(Oh, and I never iron :p)

  • Hi can I join your club please? It looks like I have it easy compared to all you!! But still my house is a bloomin' nightmare.

Ironically, I was really organised at work but at home I just don't have the motivation.

I am a single mum to one boy (with autism - so the strangest things are actually impossible, like going to the supermarket with him). He's at school full time though so when the holidays are over it will be easier in lots of ways.

    Ooh, i never iron either!!
  • I wasted so long ironing, but haven't for a year or so now (other than DH's work shirts- the bane of my week!) and I honestly haven't noticed the difference... So glad I had my eyes opened to it, there are so many other things to be doing!

csh, I wanna be like you! :o:p

Today's plan (and, yes, I know it's almost half four!) is taking the tree down (baa humbug!), getting that back in the loft, the highchair unpacked and seek out a new home for all these toys. Can't wait until Rhys is sitting properly and half the big stuff we have scattered around becomes redundant!
