Stay at home mums getting organised in 2010

Options
Hi, At the start of last year there was a thread for stay at homes trying to get organised. I am stay at home mum to my 2yr old ds and I am also 18 weeks pregnant. I thought bringing the thread back would be good so we can help each other with ideas on how you save money etc while being sahm's? I have good and bad days/weeks/months at being organised but I think I have improved in the 2 years of being a SAHM and I need to get more organised now I have another baby on the way.
Any other SAHM's out there wanna join in and get organised for 2010? :T

I'm a SAHM till September when I go back to college as well as being a SAHM (basically, I don't work).

Organisation is just a nightmare right now, I bought a book on how to get organised but threw it down in disgust because of the pictures of white carpets, stain free walls, lack of piles of stuff to be sorted and children in clean ironed clothes and not a sign of a chocolate spread moustache.

I do need to get a diary, with a week to view, plenty of space and a bit down the side for the important to do's that week (that was as far as I read). Oh and a basket to sit on the stairs apparently it will help change the world....

    I'm in..

I'll be a SAHM until mid-May anyway, Lottery win dependent in the meantime ;)

House completely renovated and baby arrived all in 2009. Still surrounded by boxes of junk, which I must go through to find a new home for - preferably outside of these four walls! All motivational assistance gratefully received! :D

Tia, do you use Outlook for emails? I use the calendar function on there to keep track of all appointments etc. Everything's colour-coded, and there are even sections for "to do" and "must watch tv programmes" :o Btw, we live in a bungalow so no stairs.. where does my world changing basket go? ;)
  • I'm one too. My daughter is 6 months old and I seriously need to stick to a routine to keep on top of the housework more than anything else. It can be so hard to get round to it when you're tired and it's almost impossible to get anything done during the day. I am going to ask my mum to come round once a week and look after her while i give upstairs a good vacuuming.

.. I am going to ask my mum to come round once a week and look after her while i give upstairs a good vacuuming.

I've tried time and time again to implement this, but we just end up chatting and all three of us playing instead of me getting on with things :wall: Luckily, I have some training lined up (starting 20th Jan) that's going to take me out the house 1.30-3pm one day a week so I'm going to drop DS off at Mum's early in the morning, come home, blitz the house, out to training, quick food shop, then back to collect him.. That's the magic plan anyway!

I will be watching this thread with interest! I am an older sahm, but trouble is when I worked full time with 2 children I never really got into any routine. I just used to blitz through the whole weekend to keep on top of the most important housework and all the laundry. I now have 3 kids, have been quite ill this year having surgery for bowel cancer and have stuff belonging to my ex cluttering up the place. I get rid of bag after bag of stuff every week but never seem to get straight. My house isn't dirty but it is cluttered and in fly-lady talker,I am in chaos (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome!) Maybe keeping up with you on this thread might hgelp me to keep the impetus going!
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!
  • elle-gee, i love magic plans! i am full of them (or something !)

I may even spend more time now and get only half done.
The only things I'll be doing daytime is the once a week upstairs hoovering. Probably needs it more often but I don't care :)
Every now and then I can have a major clean up and clear out, like quarterly.
Everyhtign else will get done when my daughter gets off to sleep and I'll tidy up round her while she's doing that!
I'm one of these that lets it all pile up normally then I feel bad about it and it gets me down - i would love to be one of these organised people.

Suzi Q sorry to read about your health ((hugs)) - I think just doing what youre doing is marvellous enough!

  • Oh and i am also now making up bottles in advance for the next day. i have been making them up as and when for over 6 months and I think the time has come that it would be ok to make in advance and put in the fridge.
Even just having to make up a fresh bottle is a palaver if she's asleep on the settee or something and I have to put her in her walker or her mat - much easier to just carry her through and i can boil a kettle with one hand and put a bottle in a bowl with one hand.

Shortcuts, thats what we need - list your shortcuts!
