Takes me about 10 minutes to have a shower...I only really shower in the summer, I take baths in the winter for my joints.
I don't have hot water, only cold in my shower because I use it to cool down and wash at the same time, as it's cold, it gives me the incentive to not hang about! Shaving is done prior to getting in the shower (without the water running), washing hair takes 5 mins at most and I turn the shower off when lathering my hair...same as if I condition with a seperate product, shower off while lathering and waiting for it to take effect.
I have longish hair and can't think why 20 minutes would be needed. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

20 mins about my average. nice break from the kids. my shower is 8.5kw but average usage for the day is only 11kw in all. How much are you paying per unit for a £1.80 readingMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000

You'll all faint then when I recount mine !
I have a 12kw heater and it uses loads of electricity. But in reality it does not. You cannot work out the cost from the kw and unit charge as you have no idea whether the unit is working at 2kw or 12kw. It all depends upon your flow rate (pressure, the size of your pipes etc.) and the temperature of the water used. It also depends upon the ambient temperature of the water coming into the heating unit.
I have a couple of showers a day and couldn't care less what it costs as I need that for my basic living standard. I try to economise in other ways.
Anyway, however much she is using, she is certainly not using £200 of electricity a month on 20 minute showers a day. I do agree though that the rent is on the cheap side.
I also agree with the Rigsby comments. Just what makes a person time another in a shower and then complain about it makes my skin crawl.0 -
I just had a shower and was in for no longer than 10 mins. I have exceptionally long hair and was exceptionally grubby after decorating... lord only know what she is doing in there!!!
Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
Does she use masses of loo roll too, I hate that.0

I dont think it makes you sound stingy. Why should you take on a lodger at reduced rent and then lose out? You're not a charity. show her the bills and ask her to pay the difference but dont mention the time she spends in the shower as it sds intrusive.0

""Why should you take on a lodger at reduced rent and then lose out? " - but it was OP who set the rent........ not the lodger.....
if OP now regrets her low rent, she must re-negotiate it... but is it really worth it for only 7 weeks more ?
I'd bite the bullet and charge more next time...0 -
I've had lodgers continuously for over ten years, and sympathise with the OP.
Sometimes I do get niggly about the amount of loo roll, hot water, etc they use, because it's more than *I* would use.
But as someone remarked upthread, if you cannot learn to be tolerant then you should not live with other people.
So I often have to bite my tongue. For example one lodger was using about three toilet rolls a week - this seemed outrageous, but when I counted up how much it actually cost me, it only came to about 75p for three rolls. Not worth falling out with an otherwise good lodger and income of £70pw for the sake of 75p a week. I outwitted her anyway by supplying her with the cheapest possible stuff and hiding my double velvet rolls in my own room!
Also, I remind myself that she NEVER uses the oven. Another lodger might be frugal with the loo roll, but have the oven on for an hour a day!0
