Nice to have a bit of time to oneself innit?0 -
I'd have thought it depends what sort of shower it is. A power shower would be a lot quicker than one of those weak contraptions where it takes the first five minutes to get you wet.
Also re. hair washing - add another 3-5 mins if you use conditioner, as that has to be left on for a bit.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I reckon my showers last about 3 minutes...
Anyway, I think if you have a generally good tennant/lodger then I wouldnt say anything about this, unless it was something very excessive (from others responses, its not insane/crazy...). Running a full bath every day would probably cost the same?
I used to share a student flat where one chap wanted the heating on max, 24/7

Like KiKi.. i was in australia for a while, and they go mad for 4 min showers, and i had long hair (Surf style)!
Is the costs ALL about this 20 min shower?
I cant imagine 20 min shower using as much 'leccy as say the same amount of time with the TV on?
Power showers dont really use THAT much power to be fair, especially compared to the likes of using a computer, at night with the light on while cooking dinner on the electric stove... Fairly average for myself about an hour after getting back from work!
Wheras in the morning, i get up.. shower, shave, work. if its a special occasion i might have a bit of toast.
Maybe the monitor is wired up in a funny way or something? Seems weird that it jumps so much! (not arguing or anything, just going on what i know)Credit card: [STRIKE]£2533.30[/STRIKE] £0 as of July '16!Overdraft: [STRIKE]£1700[/STRIKE]£0 as of July '16!Aim:Save for a working trip to New Zealand leaving late 2016/ early 2017!0 -

Sorry but you are completely wrong. Power showers are one of the most energy hungry devices, basically anything that produces substantial amounts of heat (heating/ hot water/ washing machine/ tumble dryer). Computers and TVs are a million miles away, in the region of hundreds of WATTS. Remember a kilowatt is a thousand times more energy than a watt.

Two of us in an all electric flat use under 10KWH per day including lighting, hot water, cooking, TV and laptop, washing machine. A twenty minute shower with an 8KWH unit would increase our usage by 25% for one single appliance being used by one single person! :rotfl:Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Well Plasma TVs can use 400watts and could conceivable be on for hours and hours. I suspect most people spent 20 times longer watching TV than showering!0 -
I'm a bath fanatic - I shower if its the only option but give me a bath any day! When I moved in here I offered to pay the increase in water bills but was assured it was totally unnecessary.I would do the same again if I moved somewhere else in someones home. That said, aside from my laptop and the light, I use no electrical appliances at all and what is budgeted for my food is far more than I would spend if I was shopping for myself. Its swings and roundabouts I think

You have completely moved the goalposts. If you can find the percentage of British households that own a plasma TV we will be in business!
"The report stated that almost 88 percent of British households have a digital TV set and pointed out that Britain has seen the highest average rise of 3.2 percent to 3.8 hours a day in terms of TV viewing than any other country. The average daily TV viewing across Europe was recorded at 3.5 hours a day."
http://www.itproportal.com/portal/news/article/2009/12/17/uk-viewers-spend-more-one-day-week-front-telly/- "The average Brit spends 7.2 minutes in the shower according to Waterwise
- Men and women spend about the same amount of time in the shower: men take seven minutes on average while women take 7.6 minutes
- While power showers may be invigorating, they pump as much as 16 litres of water a minute - more than the average person living in the developing world gets through in a day. In fact, even a five-minute power shower can use more water than a bath."
