Put the plug in the bath and if the water gets well over the ankle, it might be time to think about a bath and the "Tea" lights?
  • Its funny how electric showers can develop little faults after 10 mins....

  • I would be annoyed if I was paying all-in for bills and I was asked to use less.

If you got your sums wrong then put the rent up in 3 or 6 months time.

Running horse that was so helpful thanks so much, how on earth I coped without your advice before I will never know! If you actually read the post in the first place you would realise I was asking, should I just roll with it, or should I broach the subject with her? I dont want to offend or just sound like a nag, grow up!
You sound like Rigsby. Especially when you start monitoring your female lodger's showers. I would rather need to grow up, than sound like an old curmudgeon. Or you could always supply candles to save on electric lightbulbs. Make sure you are also getting itemised phone bills, and write your name on eveything in the fridge.

As the others have said, set the rent to a level where you do not worry about how long lodger is in the shower. As a lodger I would gladly pay extra not to be under the gaze of a penny pincher. And even if you have set the rent low, you are still better off.

  • well il leave it then. Thanks to anyone who genuinely offered advice, I appreciate it, to those who were just out to have a dig take a running jump. I dont listen to anyone in the shower, I can see when it on and off by looking at the screen on the monitor, and I am charging £200 a month excluding her meals she provides that herself. As I said, I am doing it as a favour to someone and dont want to get screwed over like my last lodger did!! Christ some people can be so goddamned venemous on here, happening more and more on various posts I have seen. Merry xmas!!

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.

    Hi

Frankly, unless you are living in a very porr area, the lodging rate is far too low. £60-70 per wqeek for the room plus a contribution to bills. How long is she staying?

Agree with RAS. Where we are single rooms start at 75 per week rising to 100+ for doubles if they are ensuite (bills inclusive). We have a friend of the my gf lodging with us at the moment and I'm charging £5 less per week than the cheapest I could find on gumtree which seems fair.

At just over £46 per week i'd be questioning is it really worth it after you take into consideration the extra bills.
