Hi,
Can sympathise. Had to broach the same subject with my son not so long ago. We had a talk about the actual cost of a lot of things! He just didn't have a clue (he's 21)
Some people really don't understand the cost of running a house.
Have a chat, the lesson is invaluable

LOL
Noooooooo.
it'd be fun to see how much water you use - I spose putting the plug in and seeing how high it gets is a vague indicator.0 -
OMG, I can't believe that people can actually manage 5 minute showers. I am more of a 20-30 minutes girl and often longer when I wash my hair. I find that by the time I have cleansed my face, exfoliated and washed properly it takes ages. I might get a shock if I had an electricity monitor but like one poster mentioned I wouldn't see it as I would be in the shower! If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

I know the shower will obviously use the same sort of power when I am in it, however I am in there for a max of about 5 mins, I wash, I leave, simple. As for me being creepy and "watching her in the shower", the fact that I am 110% GAY blasts that theory out the water im afraid! I find the energy monitor a new toy, so I seem to watch it all the time, hence me noticing the sharp increase in usage and it being the same 20 mins later, and I can hear the water running in the shower, so there is no creepy spying outside the door going on. I posted to see if I was being to over reactive, I didn't want to cause offence to her, it seems some people find they make themselves feel better by taking the pi*s out of others on the forums, very nice of you! Will think twice before posting for advice on here again.
Don't worry about any negativity. Its just part of posting.
You should be thankful she takes showers and not baths though. I have one or two daily.
As to showers; I usually spend 5 to 10, but if going for a pamper, etc, def 20 mins.0 -
It really does depend on the person, I sweat very freely and therefore smell easily so I need to be particular about my personal hygiene. Even then (as a fitness instructor) I regularly have to throw away clothing that isn't totally fresh.
I don't find Dove soap gentle - it gives me contact dermatitis.
Some can get away with not washing much - you realise this if you go camping or to festivals regularly! Obviously it's common courtesy to be as fresh as possible if anyone (professional or otherwise) is going to get up close and personal.
Bizarre, all of their ads keep going on about how it's nearly the same ph as skin
I use Pears soap myself because everything else dries my skin out big time. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
I used to shower and wash my hair every morning when I was working (I bath now) and it always took about 18 mins to do the full routine. This was a shower drawing off the hot water tank so was reasonably efficient, but probably not as much as a power shower.
I don't understand how people reckon they can have a proper wash (and rinse of hair and all body parts!) in 3-5 mins. In would be just about applying the shampoo by then.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Two of my girlfriends liked to have a bath and then immediately have a shower, they reckoned they need to wash the dirty bath water off...0

Oh I do that too, about two mins shower before I step out of the bath.
Lol @ "two of my girlfriends" - they didn't bath together I trust! :rotfl:

I used to do it the other way round - run a bath then go for a shower to get clean - then get in the bath for a soak. Clean me in clean bath water bliss. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
Showers typically use less water than baths, but if the shower is electric and the normal hot water gas, then the bath will be a lot cheaper.
since our landlord fitted our electric shower we have turned the water heater off and have saved a small fortune! We were having a bath before (often sharing because it would take 1.5 hours to heat the water) and our gas bill was through the roof. The elec bill has increased slightly but overall (gas and elec) our fuel bills have come down since having a shower installed
and on the topic of a 20 minute shower, very rare I have a 20 min shower, usually less than 5 mins if I'm just having a quick wash, 5-10 mins if I'm washing my hair (very thick long curly hair  ), 10-15 mins if I'm using a conditioning treatment or if I just want to stand under the hot water!*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!NSD Jan 2/150
