  • On the other hand, my male flatmate usually spends at least 15 minutes in the shower - yes actually in the shower, not just in the bathroom faffing - every day. He has short hair, nothing to shave, so I have no idea what he's up to! Maybe he's using my masks and polish......

How do you know he has nothing to shave ;)

Ha ha ha, maybe I am being a bit presumptuous!
  • start worrying when shes been in there for just over an hour, especially when you need to get into the bathroom
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

Bogof Babe and Wikickkitten - yes really, twice a week (ish - I don't have set days or anything like that). No, I don't bath in between (at most I'll wash my hands when needed and poss my face if I've been in the city) - I just don't get that dirty! I do change my clothes every other day-ish (depending on what I've been doing) so it's not like I'm wearing the same thing all the time.

Why the shock at the idea of someone not showering everyday? Not everyone does, you know, and it isn't really necessary.

It's not the shock of not showering everyday. When you said that you shower twice a week, I actually took that to mean that you only wash twice a week and I was right.
When I was a child in the sixties my sisters and I had a bath once a week and all stayed perfectly clean. The days in between we used to stand at the sink and wash with soap and flannel. We all managed to stay quite clean without showers or baths everyday.

That's the difference, I don't find that shocking at all because you are still washing.
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.

I'm a long-haired girl too and my showers last approximately 2 songs on my iPod. I'm wondering what everyone else doing in there to make it last 20 minutes!

I'm a five minute girl too. Twenty minutes in the shower would empty my hot water tank.

As I said its a temp thing to help out, and the room is worth £300 - £350 at least (double, walk in wardrobe, south facing, almost exclusive use of a bathroom with double shower, wireless broadband, digital TV, heat, light and a cat!) but as the person concerened is a friend of a friend we agreed £200 as it is for 2 months max, but if she stays beyond that, the rent will increase accordingly.

That's the problem with what I term 'pity lets' - you end up doing it as a favour rather than through primary choice and sometimes charity and goodwill isn't a great foundation for it.

Since she's paying up to 50% less than the commercial rate and many landlords don't allow either short-term contracts or pets, she's the main beneficiary here, not you.

Is she aware that the rent will increase after this period so isn't likely to take umbrage when you increase it to market rent?

Are you considering making the rent exclusive of energy bills which may encourage less consumption?

Used to have a bath once a week when I was little, but we had a wash everyday - sometimes twice if we'd been making mud pies in the garden or it was the summer. Now I'm older, I only shower every 2-3 days (more at certain timres, I am a girl) but I wash every night - face and hands - when I brush my teeth. Can't shower every day as my skin doesn't like it - gets all dry and no moisturiser can sort it out. I take about 15-20 mins in the shower, but that's doing all my lady things too.

I hope you wash your pits and bits every day too, not just your hands and face? Otherwise, eeeeewwwwww. Sorry.

    That's just ridiculous.

Wickedkitten - you surmised correctly that I do not wash every day. (which was what I meant in the first place, no confusion intended).

Again, I say 'so what?'. I think the reaction to such statements (such as BP's reaction) have been OTT. It really isn't necessary to wash everyday - I'm not saying you shouldn't, do whatever makes you comfortable but washing every day is not a necessity and does not mean, per se, that you smell or are dirty.

Why would you need to wash your armpits and 'bits', as you call them, everyday? How much do you people sweat?!
