I have been known to spend half an hour in the shower. I think the shortest ever for me is 10 mins! Didn't realise i was in the minority, I like to jump in and have a good old sing song & generally ponder life - I shower when Im in a rush, if I have a bath it takes me a minimum of an hour!

Honestly, it's not worth losing a good lodger over. You set the rent at the rate you saw fit & didn't specify specifics. If she stays with you then put the rent up but otherwise stop worrying about it as in the short term it's not really going to cause major problems.

Does the OP realize that the energy meter will read exactly the same when he is in the shower ? ..... I do wonder!

However they are in the shower for half the time therefore each shower costs half as much as the lodger.

Bogof Babe and Wikickkitten - yes really, twice a week (ish - I don't have set days or anything like that). No, I don't bath in between (at most I'll wash my hands when needed and poss my face if I've been in the city) - I just don't get that dirty! I do change my clothes every other day-ish (depending on what I've been doing) so it's not like I'm wearing the same thing all the time.

Why the shock at the idea of someone not showering everyday? Not everyone does, you know, and it isn't really necessary.

When I was a child in the sixties my sisters and I had a bath once a week and all stayed perfectly clean. The days in between we used to stand at the sink and wash with soap and flannel. We all managed to stay quite clean without showers or baths everyday.

I bath almost everyday now but I consider that a luxury not a neccessity. I agree with Viola that it is perfectly possible to stay clean without having to shower.

With regard to the OP however, I would be a bit miffed if I was timed in the shower by a landlord/landlady and for the sake of a few weeks I don't think it is worth the bad feeling it could cause by making an issue out of it.

Having a warm shower makes me feel better, I couldn't go a day without one.

I timed myself yesterday and I take about 10 mins.
  • my other half is in the shower for 45 minutes every day:eek:
his daughter is between 20-30 minutes

I am the very most spend 15 minutes, but usually its only 10 :D

So every day we have showers running for min 75 mins, max 90 mins, and thats without the other 2 kids being home visiting with their partners :rotfl:
:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:
  • if i thought my landlord was monitoring my showering habits as closely as you are then i'd be out of there! how creepy!

girls take longer in the shower, 20 minutes isn't excessive.

    get a grip!
  • I'm a girl. If I'm not washing my hair then I'm in the shower for about 5 mins. If I am washing my hair I'm in for about 10 mins. Then once a week I have my pamper shower where I'll put on a face mask, hair mask, body polish, etc - probably takes about 20 minutes.

On the other hand, my male flatmate usually spends at least 15 minutes in the shower - yes actually in the shower, not just in the bathroom faffing - every day. He has short hair, nothing to shave, so I have no idea what he's up to! Maybe he's using my masks and polish......

PS. I'm not a weird shower-timing-stalker - it's just a bit of a joke in our house that he takes longer to get ready than a girl. :rotfl:
