Just connect your PC to the wireless router using a cable, Ethernet preferably or USB if you have no option. It is a good idea to have at least one PC hard wired to the wireless router.

You have to plug the Hub in 'Wired' to one PC to start with. It cannot be configured wirelessly out of the box.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0

I asked why i was getting a steady 1.2mb, doing various speed tests, this figure never changed, prior i was getting speeds of 1.8mb with the 2mb connection, and that the hub manager was showing the downstream still to be sitting at a 2mb connection, 10 days have now passed, and again i phoned, this time taking no crap from BT, no 10 days training time to hide behind this time, they did a speed test at their end, and surprise, surprise, it shows up at 1.2mb, ever felt like you've been hitting your head off a brick wall??
I have now placed my speed issue as a complaint, and also a complaint into why my query wasn't taken seriously, considering the information that i had placed in front of them, to be honest i don't think the indian helpdesk even knows what the home hub is, i even had spyware as an excuse for missing 3mb of my connection, i run 4 spyware programs regularly:rolleyes: , and then went on to stuff like how my pc was connected, etc, now considering i haven't done anything other than plug in and install the home hub, i felt like i was going round and round in circles.
Today when i phoned, i maybe was a bit harsh with BT, but i felt i had no option, the poor guy on the phone got, my connection is crap, my pc is set up correctly including microfilters etc, no spyware on pc done checks and a virus check, i have asked 3 times if my max speed was switched on, now i'm asking again, only this time i'm passed the 10 days, so sort it out.
BT, have now eventually admitted that the speed is poor, and is now investigating why i am not getting the 4-5 mb my line can handle.
Just a shame that BT don't listen to their customers a bit more, and perhaps this could of been sorted out days ago.0 -
lyntwyn wrote:Wireless hub connected to pc via usb? We are talking wireless are we not?- or am I misunderstanding your reply?
I'm saying that you can indeed connect BT wireless hub to pc via USB... or Ethernet cable, if you don't have wireless capabilities on your PC. A wireless hub doesn't mean you can only connect wirelessly.spankymonkey wrote:i am going to wireless so that my daughter can use her pc upstairs without using a cable, i wanted to know how my pc can pick up the wireless modem my end? as my pc is not wireless enabled. do i need to buy an adapter for my pc too or does one of these come with the welcome pack?
No, in your case, you don't need a wireless adapter as you can connect to the BT wireless hub provide either with USB or ethernet cable. Hope that helps.espresso wrote:Just connect your PC to the wireless router using a cable, Ethernet preferably or USB if you have no option. I guessed it should work that way, but the instruction book says otherwise! My main PC is hard-wired so I didn't bother trying. Subsequent wireless set-ups worked OK though.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0

HTH
Sorry if its a daft Q but why is it a good idea to have one PC wired? I was going to have both of mine wireless, - unless there is a good reason not to!
My first PC is already wireless ready and I have an adapter for the other.0 -
steven_cardwell wrote:I complained 3 times during my 10 day training period that i wasn't seeing any faster speeds, prior to the 5th July, i was on a 2mb connection with BT, each time i phoned i was told by some Indian robot, with his FAQ fact sheets to wait 10 days, seems they either don't understand what you query is, or don't want to understand.
.
After nearly 3 weeks my speed has finally increased from 1.8 to 2.8 mb. Considering how close to the exchange i live i'm not overly impressed. I "spoke" to one of the call centre monkeys via the online chat thing and they advised me it took 30 days for the system to figure out my best speed. I then cut and pasted all the stuff on the bt website about the 10 day period and mentioned that one of her colleagues had verified the 10 day period previously and asked her who was lying or who needed "retraining" she suggested i call the 0845 no. for more assistance.
I phoned them and they told me to delete my temp internet files and history etc as they were slowing my connection down?
I still have problems with the hub not automatically giving me wireless access which forces me to shut down, and on restart disconnect and reconnect my wireless connection.0 -
I'm going to switch to Wireless Internet with BT so that i can get rid of my big desk and desk top computer in the front room and use a laptop instead. Can you tell me what option is best suited for me?
I only use it for the Internet and printing etc. I use Microsoft word occassionally when i write formal letters etc. Oh and i use MSN too.
I want the BT Hub obvioulsy to use this service. With option 1, i would have to buy the Hub for £30With option 2, i get the Hub free. I don't want option 3 as it's too expensive for me and i don't want the phone.
Option one is the same amount each month that i already pay. option 2 would mean paying out an extra fiver a month.0 -
Kimberley I have merged your thread with an existing one with user's experiences on this BT offer0

The way I see it...taking option 2 is kinda like paying for the hub in installments.... plus the benefit of more data transfer (6GB)... Or otherwise, you could get your own wireless router (I would recommend Linksys) and go for option 1.
It's up to you really...0
