So when you're out it uses the Vodafone mobile network, so presumably a (Vodafone) mobile number then. Do you get a geographical number aswell?

You're thinking about BTFusion, which is something different altogether, although it can use the Hub!

Wow Im glad I didnt ring yet - having dealt with the call centre many times before when I got the 2mb installed I have held off as I know that they gonna be at critical point over the next few weeks with all the new subscribers - luckily I havent got a service any worse than before and as yet no charge for my 2500v router - so I will leave it a while until things cool a bit (unless my service gets worse).

Bt Max seems to be another great disaster from Bt and I will cancel my order and ask for a downgrade back to my stable 2mb - to get rid of the 12 months they have conned me into.

There will be many new offers just around the corner when SKY jump on the band wagon in the coming months.

I upgraded from 2mb to dsl max a 10 days ago and got the new hub last thursday, As of yet my speed hasn't increased any but hasn't got any worse. I'm expecting a decent increase as the exchange is at the end of my street. Haven't tried plugging my existing dect cordless into the hub yet as the instructions aren't the best. One of the better things though is the online chat thing via the hub to speak to a "technical" person in India without having to figure out what each other are saying.

Got my hub to day without hub phone as apparently out of stock but have sent me a bt6150 free in the mean time so I can use btbroadbandtalk only prob they forgot to sort that out when I ordered it on 27th June with them making out doing me favor giving me free hub phone .......now told take 5 days to set up .........according to the letter with the hub the phone that goes with it will be sent to me by royal mail special delivery in approx 6 to 8 weeks and they will contact me nearer the time..................the whole point of getting the hub phone is cos it would not take up more desk space so bit peeved now have to have a second dect phone on desk too...........between this and the complaint I have with btyahoo over wrongly collected email money I am totally fed up with different stories and down right lies.

Here's the reason for the delay in sending the handset: http://www.webuser.co.uk/news/88157.html

Another way of looking at is you're getting two for the price of one!

I was tempted to order BT Broadband now for the sake of getting a second handset.

So what we commonly term an ADSL router contains an ADSL modem, router, and wireless access point all in one box.

Is the BT Hub basically the above plus a part for VoIP without needing a PC switched on? Does it work with any provider or is it locked?

The short answer is yes. It works with both the VOIP service that comes with BT Total broadband and BT Fusion. It's also designed to work with the forthcoming BT Vision: a combination of a Freeview hard drive video recorder and a video-on-demand service over broadband.

I'd be very surprised if the hub isn't set up purely for the BT services but you never know.
