The download limits aren't strictly enforced though - they're more of a guideline. You're not instantly charged for going over, and if you go over 40gb, I think they contact you after 45/50Gb to let you know to either cut down or pay per gig.
And yeah, there's going to be a lot more to this when BT Vision comes out. It's a good package ready for the future, plus the equipment is top-notch. one note if you are an existing customer some of the freebies at first glance are not free.

BT now give you the free phone as normal with BT Total BB opt 3, Opt 2 you still have to pay £50 instead of the £25 new customers get it for.

Why not go with another provider for a while and then come back as a new customer.
Mind you I wouldn't patronise a firm that only offers discounts to "first time customers only" anyway on principle, I hate that banker in the Nationwide advert sooooo much![strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0 -

Thanks for this - I rang BT and they confirmed what you have said. They had had lots of complaints!0 -
The only problem being, of course, that BT have sent ALL of the hub phones back to the manufacturer as they are complete junk.
That's why they're on 6-8 weeks delivery at the moment.
Still having problems getting BT to admit that I should receive a free handset - I was on BT Option 4 and regraded to BT Total Broadband on the launch date, when the website STATED that Option 4 customers changing to Total Broadband WOULD receive a free handset...
They said I would get a free DECT BT6150 phone delivered on Friday as an interim solution, but that didn't arrive anyway!!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
It may be an Idea to stick with my TalkTalk broadband (if it turns out to be any good) then "come back" to BT as a new customer and get one of these thingies for free...[strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0

Guess you guys are just in the process of getting the 8mb service. I have read on other sites that many are getting results which are far less than expected with the new speeds - I currently have been activated 12 days with no speed increase to show and in fact have slightly slower download speeds at certain times in the day although my upload has slightly increased. (I was on 2mb option 1.)
Could some of you post up your speeds if and when you get set up.
Apparently it takes upto 10 days for the system to sort out the speed you will be getting.Aint got a signature - as I cant think of anything world wisely to say.0 -

Previously i was getting 1.7/1.8mb, when i did speed tests, now i'm getting 1.2mb, the hub info says 1952 (if speed is supposed to be up to 4-5mb shouldn't it be showing higher than this?) and 448, and i haven't seen any interuptions to my service, so looking at all the information, i don't see any indication of the up to 4-5mb that i was told i would get, and this is nearly half way thru' the 10 day period of testing that BT are supposed to be doing.
Tried phoning to see if they had switched the Max on, but got India and a robo-answer about the 10 days, mind you with all the hastle with this Total Broadband, and Bt not knowing what is what for exisiting customers, waiting for refunds for hub phones that they charged for, and now are supposed to be free, and still waiting for the money to go back into the account from the 22nd June, i didn't hold out much hope of a simple answer to the question of "i was on 2mb broadband and my speed hasn't improved, was the max service correctly that was supposed to start on the 5th July switched on, as i wasn't a max customer prior to ordering Total Broadband"0 -
Here is my story of BT Total Broadband.
21st June, phoned up to query why the free handset that shows up at start of online order, doesn't show up at the final confirmation, end up doing the order on the phone, and according to operator phone is £49.99 to existing customers, no info that normal house phones work with the talk service, so i order a phone at £49.99 with my debit card, however operator forgets to order my talk service.
22nd, after reading various posts here, stating that they were getting free phones, i decided to take another look at the online ordering, and get stated that i have an order placed, giving me a number to phone to discuss my order, phone this number, and after a bit of an argument, the BT operator even told me they couldn't cancel the order because it would also cancel my 2mb service i was currently receiving!
After about 20 minutes, the BT cs/operator talks to another department, comes back and says "your hub and 2 phones have been cancelled, you now have on order what is called a BT Home Hub, this comes with a free handset, your activation and delivery date is still the 5th July", this comment, made me believe that their must be a handset in the box with the hub, ala a DVD player coming with a remote control, as at no point on the 21st did i ask for 2 phones, before i have
the chance to ask about BT Talk being ordered, she has hung up on me.
Phone back, and told the Talk hasn't been ordered, but i can add it on the 5th, considering, the complaint and the argument was about the hub handset, i thought it was quite shocking, that it was another case that BT had placed an order, but never thought that because i wanted the hub handset, that i needed the Talk service to go with it!
24th, £49.99 taken from my bank account, for the hub handset, that was cancelled on the 23rd, phoned BT to enquire that i was refunded.
30th, phoned again to enquire when this £49.99 was being refunded, still getting all this takes 5 days crap, and now starting to p*ss me off, as they were pretty quick to take it!
Also told when i enquired that the order placed, was option 3, free hub, free phone and 5th avtivation date, was told by the robots who answer the phones, that only a hub was coming, at this point i was seriously think ing of telling them to stick their broadband where the sun doesnt shine!
Again, because of the lack of information that any old house phone would work with the broadband talk, i snapped that i wanted to use the service as i feel the £26.99 a month includes the price for these free calls, and to charge me for a hub phone on my telephone bill, after the hastle with the debit card, i wasn't giving them that as a payment, since i was still waiting for my refund from the 22nd!
Sent a huge email to BT complaining about the service, and the lack of information that the people who answer the phones have, if i hear a sricpt one more time i will scream, i question what i was told on the phone about getting everything free the call on the 22nd, she even said that she had the power to send me a free phone, but no-one wanted to investigate my claims, all they were interested in saying was "new customers only"
Eventually get a call back regarding email, and told everything would be free, i would get refund to my debit card, plus the bill that was going onto the phone bill would also be cancelled.
3rd July, get a call from BT, no idea what the call back was from, but it was a robo answer of "handset free to new customers", decided to ignore this one, after the call on Friday, i assumed this was a call back from an email i had sent before the "f*ck your broadband one"
4th, still no sign of £49.99 back into bank account so phoned them up again, got a it will be refunded in next few days, the order on the phone bill has been cancelled, my order was coming on the 5th was a hub, and the free handset will be here on the 11th.
5th, postie been and gone, phoned BT, told order was down as 11th, i can bring it forward to 6th, i was thinking they were getting confused with handest, but i said ok.
10 minutes later a knock at the door, another postie with a van, a BT Hub, and 2 BT Diverse 6150's, complete with the out of stock handset letter (flashback of hub and 2 phones from the call on the 22nd came to my mind)
Phoned about activating BT Talk as the website gave an error message, told to expect an email with number.
Came home from work, no email, so chanced my luck online, got in this time, put in my info, and no sign of "you have an order placed", got 2 emails back, followed by number, so again, looks like phoning doesn't get you what i asked for again, still never got any sign that the order was ever placed from that phone call.
Nothing arrived on the 6th, so i don't know what was supposed to be coming, i have to admit i had visions of another hub, since what looked to come on the 5th was the order that was supposed to be cancelled, and according to everyone i spoke to at BT prior to the 5th said it was cancelled, because who i spoke to on the 5th, said nothing was coming on the 5th, they really don't have a clue!
Now got to the 9th, and still no sign of this £49.99 back into my bank account, hope they don't think that they are keeping it, since they sent me 2 house phones, i can't help but feel that who i spoke to on the 22nd, was just a little pork pie, but after emails and calls, i don't know anywhere i stated at any time that i wanted 2 bloody phones!
If the money isn't back in the account tomorrow, looks like another call will have to be made.
This Total Broadband has just been one disaster after another!
Now, my latest is that my speeds are worse than they were on the 2mb connection, and as a post i made previously, BT are now having difficulty with the question "have you switched me to BT Max?"
The biggest joke about it all is, after reading comments on various forums about using your house phone for BT Talk and the pressing 5 to use phone etc, and the lack of BT telling customers that are complaining about the handset being chargable, that at no time do you get told that the hub has a phone socket that normal phones can plug into, and you can keep you landline and the broadband talk seperate, as in no need for this press 5 lark, only after getting the hub, and seeing it for myself, do you see that the hub phone isn't really needed, and in reality you could go up to somewhere like Argos and get a twin dect set for the price that BT want for one hub handset.0
