I find crochet a lot easier than knitting - but mainly because I get inflamed tendons and if I try to knit anything too heavy I really struggle.... I also find it easier with just the one needle to be honest :) But everyone is different and some prefer knitting - others crochet :) try both and see if one suits you better than another :)

is crocheting easier than knitting? im not having too much luck with knitting :(

I find crocheting easier because there is only one stitch on the hook to drop but with kniting there are loads and I always end up dropping them lol. Also only easy to follow on youtube lol.

I have found watching the youtube tut's easier to follow than trying to read a pattern at the mo (thank you nuttybabe abd SueB for the links :D)

Now started on a rabbit, will post a pic when (if) I finish it :D

    what to do next.......

O my goodness this is adorable well done!

As for the toy eyes someone mentioned - you can buy them on ebay... not sure what size greenpixey goes for but I buy 7mm ones for my toys.
They are really good as they fix securely using a cap which goes inside the toy.
You can also get the eyes from Hobbycraft.

Where did you get the eyes from? i have seen a few little animals with these eyes and want to make them but dont think my huge googly eyes would look right!! :D
    thanks

I buy mine from Ebay from this seller http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ANIMAL-BEAR-DOG-TOY-CRAFT-EYES-9MM-BLACK_W0QQitemZ390140185319QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Crafts_Knitting_Crochet_EH?hash=item5ad62acae7
You might find them cheaper elsewhere but she is trustworthy, sends item fast and is very helpful.
Or if you want coloured eyes I get mine from USA from this seller http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vt_related_1&listing_id=37888629
The pattern you use normally tells you what size eyes you need. It usually varies from 6mm,9mm,12mm or15mm

  • Phew finally through 15 pages.

Wow these crocheted animals are a great idea, wish i'd knowen about them sooner, it would have made me more determained to try crocheting when i bought my first 2 hooks in november, being a lefty and having a right handed mum i just couldnt get away with it. My right handed aunt hellped me understand i was pulling the stiches too tight, but i was still struggling with getting stitches lose enough to crochet in (my chain stich was restricting everything).

So i saw the advert for the magazine and decided to give it another go (tbh i havent even opened the dvd). This post from Penelope to Lazy Daisy blog was the best help ever im now making my 2nd (well out of all that ive pulled out probably my 50th) grannie square.
I taught myself to crochet last year. I used the online tutorials from LazyDaisy, and the Happy Hooker book
so:T and thanks Penelope, youve helped me crack this (even if my squares are still a bit wonky)

    Wish i'd thought of this

I taught myself to crochet many years ago and I had had the same problem. Then I found a Coates How to Crochet book which suggested putting a mirror besides the pictures in the book to reverse the images. It was so easy after that. So I suggest you find a book with lots of pictures and a pocket mirror and see if this works for you
it would have made things much easier, as to begin with i picked up the "How to" sheet in Hobby Craft and now i knoe what im doing it actually makes sense.

Talking of hobby crafy i found them to be very resonably priced for buying induvidual crochet hooks compared to thoes i sourced online. Also although they only stock one make, which is painted a boring grey, its very nice to work with, i have a 3.5mm one and the wool seems to glide up and down it much easier than the 4mm one that came with the magazine.

Greenpixey can you by anychance remember where you got the pattern for this elephant, my nana loves eliphants and i'd love to make one for her.

Can anyone help me with where i can buy cheep wool? and what type to buy (double knitting? aran? 4 ply)? I cant really knit (ok well technically i cant knit anymore, the last time i knited i was 13, and i only knew 2 stiches) so i know nothing about wool, and all i have in the house is half a ball which is older than me (it has now been crochetd and pulled out numerus times and is starting to fray lots). SO i'd be especially gratfull to anyone who can direct me to somwhere cheep that i can buy a few balls of diferent colours in whatever type is sutable for crocheting .

Appoloys for the lenght of post, but i have got 15 pages worth to comment on, since i only found the thread!

  • I pick up wool from a local shop and she does DK for £1.95 a ball (100g maybe?) and I got some lovely stuff from http://www.simplywool.com/

I really need this ice too jog on so I can go and have a nosey in the wool shop for some colours to make my girls some rabbits and do some other animals.. I'm in love with the frog someone posted earlier! he's adorable

The only thing I've made this past few days is a headband for my DD and tried a square which turned out ok, I'm slacking due to lack of colour choice and re-reading twilight lol
