The bank really should just cancel his phone direct debit & write to orange. I don't understand why they're asking you to deal with this, accounts usually get frozen automatically in this situation. The easiest thing to do is to go into an orange shop with his death certificate & explain. Otherwise you will need to write to them & I imagine they will want an original of the death certificate.
Alternatively (& this actually is the most simple for you) write to orange with his details, a photocopy of the death certificate plus the details of the executors incase of any query. It's really not for you to be dealing with that kind of thing. I know you want to do things because he was your friend, but they (executors at the bank) are being paid (A LOT) to provide a service, & will have dealt with these things before.
    Sorry I explained it badly.

I mean I didnt declare it when I reported his death to them, I thought it was a pay as you go handset. I was in his house yesterday and found a bill on the mat. I rang the bank up and they said I could either get it cancelled or they would do it, I thought I'd give it a go. I'll hand it over to them when their agent comes on monday to check his flat.

Jill, just wanted to say you are doing so well for one so young. I am sending you (((((big hugs)))). You must eat to keep yourself functioning properly. I cannot believe your friends don't understand why you are doing what you are.

You and your friend seemed to have an incredible friendship that is reflected in all that you are doing for him. I expect he is up there somewhere smiling down on you :).

Just hand it over to the agent from the bank. The bank is the executor and has a legal responsibility for sorting everything out.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

    Hey all

Today was surreal! I had the agent at 9am, told me I was doing a great job he cheked the flat, said it was ok to take things like the pictures and teddy bear. He talked to me see how I was getting on made me a cup of tea and made me have 3 chocolate biscuits. He gave me a permission slip so I can register the death, Which I did at 1pm today, they accepted and Gabrielle come with me and helped me when I burst out crying in the office, Gabrielle even thought the registrar was wondering what was happening.

I popped up to the funeral home to see my friend, I wrote him a letter (If he was alive he wouldn't talk to me again, I wrote my deepest feelings such as my love for him) and I put a photo off my facebook account into his pocket so he'll never forget me. I'm just sat here trying to get myself ready for wednesday now.

  • You are doing such a wonderful thing for your friend, and it is good that you have your friend Gabrielle to support you as well. Grief does funny things to your emotions. No feelings are wrong. Cry when you need to cry and laugh when you need to laugh. Make sure you keep eating too cos he needs you to stay strong to get through the funeral. Thinking of you x
  • Jill, I've been reading your thread today and can only say what an amazing, strong and courageous lady you are. Your friend must have considered himself very lucky to have had you in his life. Please look after yourself, your friend would not have wanted you to make yourself ill.
    Take care.
    xx
