Thanks, yes I know I need to velcro the top bit on, I have the baton with the shapr side of the velcro already attached so need to get the soft side from somewhere (wonder if DH would notice the piece of velcro he's had sitting in the kitchen for aaaaaaages go missing ;) ).
I'm still up because my nephew was born at 10.43pm. 8 weeks and 5 days early. 3lb 8oz. My sister updated fb via text so I sent her a text back straight away. She then sent me a mms which I couldn't open so she rang me and we had a bit of a weepy chat. Then I figured out how to set my phone up to accept mms (with a little help from my friend google :o).
Anyhoo, I was wondering how to work out the flap sizes for want of a better explanation. I think I've done it but the blind is only 36 long and the tutorial says to have four sets of folds. This seems a lot of folds. I might have to eyeball it in the end as I have only got 2 dowels. Not trying to do that tonight though. It's waaaaaay past my bed time.
Congrats on the birth of your nephew Kaz :T

As for Roman blinds, all my windows are aprox 36 inches square (), so have made a few roman blinds (5 so far!). I have four dowels in each of mine, making three flaps and the flap at the bottom. All my windows are deep set into the walls,
I used this number in order to have as little window obscured by the blinds when open. Any less would mean bigger folds and more window covered IYSWIM :)

Must dash, off out soon, great makes all. Love the conveyor belt method. I have 10 patchwork bags cut out waiting to be made up...been side-tracked into making a bag to take on my hols next week. I agree totally about needing more time to make things...could do with a nine day week...the extra days only for making stuff and having fun!! :rotfl:

    Morning all

Thank you for the nice comments on the shirt. I was looking on the Liberty web site last night as they sell those small print kind of shirts and they are £125 each on there !! I finished off the quilt last night but it was too dark for taking some photos so hoping to get them done this afternoon (going out in a bit). Still not sure what kind of top to make with the fabric I have.

I have another quilt pieced together, just need to measure it up to see if its going to be big enough as it is or whether I will need to add a border to it. I really need to get on and get some smaller stuff done and fill the shop up a bit more but OH is off tomorrow and all weekend so doubt I will get much done until next week.

ive made 6 roman blinds so far for our new house 5 of the windows were 49 x 47 drop finished size and the last one i did which is my office is 74x 50drop finished

i only used 3 rods on each one and i set them at about 12inch apart.

so i have folds and then a piece that hangs flat

i think you can do them how ever you choose

Hi all I'm after advice - please!!!

Went to the CS today and bought a cream sheet and a cream duvet set which has similar colour daisys on, all to be used for quilting/lining bags. I also bought a pair of curtains, pictured below because I liked the colours.

Now for the advice - I really like these curtains and they should fit what I am grandly calling my "craft room". Do you think I should use them as curatins or use the fabric for bags? I am a little concerned that as the pattern is large it will be lost on bags and that would be a shame. Also they are handmade and the person that has made them has matched them really well.

    Any advice gratefully received.

the way i make my blinds measure the window width and drop eg 45inch x 45 inch

add 2inch onto all 4 sides so fabric is cut at 49 x 49

iron fabric and turn a 2 inch hem on all 4 sides (so now left with finished size of 45x45)

i use blackout lining as it doesnt need hemming

cut BOL 1 inch smaller than finished size of blind so 44x44

place BOL ontop of wrong side of fabric with a 1 inch gap allround

I use 2 inch stick and sew velcro and a 2x1 wooden batten

The sticky bit sticks to wall batten i also secure with staples

the not sticky bit gets pinned ontop of the BOL & Fabric i line mine up about 1/4 inch below the top of the fabric and it covers over the BOL at the top

    pin and sew

then i place by rod tapes at about 12inch apart and i use three so i end up with three folds and a section at the bottom that hangs flat

like this, this has pom pom trim as its a pair i made for my dd bedroom

this one is plain for the bathroom

    hope that helps

Ailsb, if it was me I'd use them as curtains then I'd get to see those gorgeous colours everyday.

I've finished my blind! Well, I haven't really :o but I've only got to sew the fluffy bit of velcro on. Then I can cut the dowels and wood and work my womanly wiles on DH to get him to drill me 2 holes so I can stick up the wood baton. I found the bit which told me how to work out the numbers this morning. I think it was ideal home. It was as I'd been doing it but you know how we worry! The tutorial also showed me how to attach the roman blind tape so that was a relief.
So very excited to get it up tonight :D.

Hart, I'm so very sorry to hear about your nephew. What an awful thing to happen especially when he had such a shaky start to his life. Poor little lamb :(

I would be inclined to keep them as curtains, as they will loose the appeal as a bag. Best way to check, is to fold the duvet down into bag sizes, and see if you agree. Unless you can get a significant amount of bags that are worth using, then they are best off as the curtains, especially when your needing curtains anyway.?
    But thats just me.

    I WON A PRIZE !!!!!!
Today in the post I received a book,
"Sewn by Hand" by Susuan Wasinger. An American book, along with a small package with a set of 5 glass head pins, on a felt, 4 hand sewing needles, a thimble, a piece of card with red/white cord, a set of vintage buttons on a card, and three skiens of embroidery cottons. all wrapped up in a piece of old pattern.
It was from American site, Burda Style.
I did get an email a long time ago to say I had won something and asked for my address details. I wrote back as I wasnt sure it was real, and forgot all about it.
This parcel was posted AIR MAIL on the 7/5/11. So hate to know what would have happened on a sea mail crossing!!.
But I was so happy to recieve it just now.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.
