I only took up sewing last year but do as much as possible with a full time job. So far i have made 2 maxi dresses and 2 day dresses and 2 evening dresses that are of an acceptable standard for wearing in public
wish i had more time to spend on it all- roll on the weekend! glad to find lots of like minded people here
Wow, that's fantastic! How did you learn to do so much in so little time? I have been sewing for a few years but haven't really left the 'cushion cover' stage....:o
Would love to hear more from you!0 -

Found a nice stall at a market yesterday and bought two lots of fabric from there for £2 a metre. One is a small print flowery viscose which I am making OH another shirt out of for his birthday next month. I cut it out last night and started sewing this morning after he went to work. Have got as far as putting the sleeves in and sewing up the side seams. Next is the cuffs which are already made up, just need to be sewin on the sleeves. I need a bit more interfacing for the front bands so trip up the town later on to get some. There is a pice left over which with a bit of luck might be big enough to make my daughter a summery top out of too.
Other piece of fabric is a large print flowery fabric which I think is a georgette, its a bit see through but will make a lovely top. Just got to decide which one of my tops to use as a pattern for it.
The lady said she is there everyday except Sunday but not too sure about this as we go to the town quite often and havent seen her there before today but will keep my fingers crossed we find her again.
I also managed to sew the binding on the quilt I am making at the moment and started to hand stitch it down around the edging. Just got a side and a bit to go on that so hopefully will finish that off tonight. Thats going in my Folksy shop, then I am going to do what Mooloo said and concentrate on getting some smaller bits done to fill up the shop a bit more. Had a lady message me the other day saying she liked my things especially the school bags and was going to save the shop so she could see what I was putting in it. Pity she didnt just buy one of the bags lol, still nice of her to message me.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Hubby is thrilled with his new watch strap.....he loves saving money. I think it is not too bad for my first attempt - can learn and correct mistakes when I make another one. I cut up an old pair of jeans that were past giving to a charity shop.....said jeans had been given to me by a family member....they know to offer anything to Mum! I have been training them for years. See how long this watch strap lasts him!Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Wow, Florence your watch strap is really good. It must have been fiddly to do.0

As with all first makes.....a bit of fiddling about to get it right....well as right as a first attempt can be.....for me anyway. I will improve on it .....hopefully. Now to get on with that doll's clothes.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Florenceem wrote: »Can you tell me which market you visited please? I have a friend in Chatham so may be able to get there. We used to have a really good market in my town years ago - everything to buy that you could wish for - now....useless.
It was in London, at Lewisham. My OH's family live there and we visit regularly. Its hard to find cheap fabric where I live now, we used to have the market at Rochester but thats gone now, The other markets around the towns just mainly sell clothing, pretty boring really. There was a fab stall in Lewisham before Xmas selling all their fabrics at £1 a metre and I bought loads when I went but never saw it there again and this if first time I have seen this stall.
Dont know if any others of you are in the South East and know of anywhere? We have a lovely quilting shop in Rochester but she only sells the cottons for quilting, not everyday fabrics.0 -

Is there still a market in Maidstone? Canterbury just has stalls in the main street but no fabric or haberdashery. What day is Lewisham market?Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Trying to tailor a jacket for a doll is not easy when there are children of 8 and 10 in your craft room. One was on my computer and kept wanting me to look at paint pictures. The other was poking about in my stuff - being nosy. I can't find the right buttons for doll's blazer so may have to paint some I found.
OT - hubby came home from the school run with the Grandchildren plus a gorgeous chest of drawers.....love it.....so right for a shabby chic makeover.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45
