Good morning! yesterday I tried to make this http://thimbleanna.com/?p=566 and could not figure out the end of the instructions, it annoyed me so much as my DD wanted it for her holidays a purse and mobile phone holder.. went to work last night and had a brainwave came home at 11.30 and attempted to create my own version of it combining the makeup bag/ pencil case tutorial and was pleased with the results but its too small for her Iphone so gonna try it again today, no good at maths but luckily i had written down the measurements I used to make this one so now gonna figure out how many inches to add for her Iphone to fit into it

She picked the fabric and i took a mini heart attack as it was the new one i had just bought on friday!! she wants wash bag, makeup bag, passport cover purse and luggage tag with it! other dd chose the cup cake one for twins they have completely different taste!

That is a cute little purse/phone combo. My DD has an iphone too so please share your finished make.

Last week I sent piles of clothes to the cc. It pained me as there was stacks of items I could have cut up into mini makes but it's no good saving stuff & not making so it had to go!

Thanks Mooloo. I think i've looked at this site. They're a bit more about furniture and curtains - but I'll look again.

Thanks too Sarahjovi. I have found them too, but none of them are wide enough and everything is silver. Why is everything bridal silver?

This London store is very well known for its trimmings and bridal fabrics, http://www.macculloch-wallis.co.uk/.

Hi Tamster - they do some lovely ones! I think I might have to bite the bullet and go to London and handle them.

Thanks also to Nykied and Miss Pixie - I have tried the bead shop in Afflecks. What a fab shop - too much choice!

Thanks all for your help. I think I've looked at hundreds and hundreds of places that do haberdashery. But you have to order minimum quantities and the like, and I only need a metre!
If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.

looking for some help. wanted to make a tablecloth for my glass table at home but i have stumbled across a problem.

the fabric i need to get (as its partly cross stiched design) is 90cm x 90cm but my table is 160cm x 100cm so id need to piece pieces of the fabric together. is this an issue on a tbale cloth coz of it becoming uneven etc or is there a way this can be done?

    thanks ladies :D

You could add the extra fabric required as a border to each side so that the main part of the cloth is one piece. That way your joins would only be at the sides. There is a stitch you can use (the name escapes me at the moment) thats used to join fabrics together flat and sewn on the right side of the fabric so that there isnt a bulky seam at the back (someone else might know the name of it)

Perhaps if you cannot get a single metre, that you could sell the surplus off on to some of us? or on Ebay etc (or similar sites around!).

The last two days I have been trying to make the teabag wallets. But I am not happy with the fabrics I have chosen in the end, some of them fray too much. Also I realise that I have not been cutting them out straight enough. Dispite using the cutting board etc etc. So must practise my straight lines!
Hence why I have never really done patchwork.
I will need to source some threads soon. My stash of things have dwindled, and wanted to sew in red today. Only Red I had left was a nylon one. It doesnt work. Dont even know where I got it from, just had a few cones of it. Nightmare. Never again. Now I have to unpick a complete wallet, and I had made it with the lamifix. So its going to be ruined. Holes in the plastic coating now.
    Back to the drawing board.

HMO - love the bag and card, hope she likes them. If she doesn't she has no taste!!

I popped to Dunelm on my way home this afternoon and have bought 1/2 metre of plastic see through table protector. I am hoping to use this as the inner pockets in a toilet bag. Has anyone stitched on plastic before? If so what sort of stitch should I use? I assume I need to use a long one but what sort of weight fabric should I set my tension to?

Hope these questions make sense to someone out there.

I just use a normal straight stitch with same tension etc as I would normal cotton but use a teflon or roller foot with it (or you can stick masking tape to the bottom of your foot but that sometimes comes off.) Your machine might be different than mine so do a few test runs on a scrap first just incase your tension/stitch length needs altered.

Its good for using for luggage tags too!

I real must get myself together and use my lamifix I brought months ago and make the make-up bags I have been meaning to do :o

Here is a pic of the mini Amelie bag I did yesterday. The top is a mess so I need to cover it :o I had a nightmare time trying to sew it as it is so tiny :rotfl:
