I need a fancy trim for the empire waist of my wedding dress. I've found lots of American websites that sell the sort of thing I'm after, but I think I need to see and feel it

So, to cut to the chase, what I'm asking is if any of you know of any suppliers of fancy diamante/rhinestone,beaded/embroidered trims or ribbons either in the Manchester or Cambridge areas?

perhaps if you post some links to stuff you have seen that you like the look of, we can suggest shops that stock it, or ways to achieve it

you wont really find many shops on the highstreet that stock bridal embellishments, but some online retailers are prepared to send samples, for a smallish fee

I have booked mark the website about the dresses. Have work to do today, but I am sure I can have a go in a bit for them as well. Would be rude not to really, whats the point of having a skill and then not helping others with it. Its just not the done thing is it. So Dresses to put on the list. Meanwhile the lunch is finished, the sewing machine is waiting, and I have 1.1/2 hours to work in.

Hello expert sewing ladies (and gentlemen!). I need some advice - I need a fancy trim for the empire waist of my wedding dress. I've asked this question on The Sewing Forum, but no joy there. I've found lots of American websites that sell the sort of thing I'm after, but I think I need to see and feel it. And, it's one of those situations where I will know exactly what I want when I see it.

So, to cut to the chase, what I'm asking is if any of you know of any suppliers of fancy diamante/rhinestone,beaded/embroidered trims or ribbons either in the Manchester or Cambridge areas? I've tried Abakhan in Manchester, but they don't have anything. I'm no good at sewing myself so I can't make it myself!

Thanks in advance for your help.

PS I love the pictures of the things you all make. Lovely handbag ailsb1!

Unfortunately, I've lent all my sewing magazines to someone, but there was one issue of 'Sew' within the last 3 or 4 months that had a free pattern for a prom-type dress. I think the front cover has a short prom dress in blue or pink on it, possibly one with a black lace thing over it.

Well, in there, there's a stockist of diamante strings that you sew into dresses, similar to those balls that you sew into the edge of cushions. They look really nice but I think they were about £10 per metre, available for mail order. If you could find someone with that issue or even ring them up, I think they'd be perfect.

    MARCH 2011.
    Rhiestone insertions, £17.50 a metre.
"Rhinestone insertion tape, is a fantastic way to add extra sparkle, simply by stitching lengths into seams so that the gems protrude. "

Louise at Sew Scrumptious is collecting 100 dresses to send off if anyone wants to join in.

Thank you for this link, I had meant to sew some a couple of months ago and then completely forgot :(
So much easier to post off to someone in the UK, so that should encourage a few more people to make some.
Just about to go and raid my stash...sure I have plenty in there.
