So, the footmuff on grandaughters pram that we keep here was looking tatty, fabric plucked etc, so i unpicked the turn down part, cut it off and added some pirate fabric.I then added the same fabric all around the edges .Hope you like it ! lol0

Very funky nuttywoman!
I know it's really late ginger but just in case you check back in the morning... my machine was doing this. My bobbin goes in from the front and the instructions said it is generally easier to lie the machine on it's back to replace everything. This has worked for me. Also the tip about the bobbins, I had a metal bobbin which the machine suddenly decided it didn't like. I have used it since though and it liked it fine *insert shruggy smiley!*
I *might* try to cut out another square when I get home in the morning, I'll see how I feel come 9am lolDebt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -

Aww thanks anyways hunny. I did lie it flat so i could check all parts fit in correctly. their little grooves they have to slot into so you know they are in correctly. apparently it's called the 'race and shuttle'
the bottom bobbin has a metal case which clips into another casing. Normally the needle comes down through a slot in the bobbin casing (to pick up the bottom thread i think) but even though its all in correctly its as though the needle hits metal rather than a space to come down into?? :rotfl::rotfl:
I'm giving it up as a bad joke until i've got less stressx

Nuttywoman, the pushchair looks great!
Ginger, I know you said you changed the needle, but was it a brand new one or could it be bent?0 -
I'm grumping now because I can't sleep, so I got up and thought I'd do a bit of my quilt before work but I don't have time because some git has left 4 loads of washing and ironing to be done and sorted. Hi, I know that this may sound daft, but is the needle position coming down into the centre of the slot, or has it been pushed to the sides, between settings maybe? Long shot but it has happened to me once or twice over the years.
The other reason is the tension on the bottom bobbin.
You need to make sure that the little screw that holds the clip on the bobbin holder, is not too loose or too tight. The bobbin should just hang when you hold it by the thread, but run easily if you pull the thread, or sort of bounce it a bit like a yoyo!:rotfl:
There have been times when I am flulmoxed at my machine, like on Thursday, when I was sewing my DGD's dressinggown it sewed perfectly. Swapped to Black thread from white and it went totally mad, missing stitches, and bunching underneath.
(I also gave up. I will go back to it tomorrow.)
Meanwhile I was at my BFs for the weekend, and I knew that he was going to be watching the football, so I took a few bits and pieces with me, and made a tote bag out of a camoflage ruck sack cover, (kindly donted), and I wove the bottom half of the ties, currently still being used to make a bag), and they are now on a panel, that I sewed on my second machine that lives at his house.
I will try and do photos later and put them on my blog, but its tea time soon and I better think about getting that on the go.When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
p.s. Re the earnings.
Everyone has their own Personal Allowance, so if you are not up to your threashold, then you can still earn.
Remember though that its earnings, which are the wages you pay yourself/your profits, not the actual amount of money that you get in.
If you are running a shop, then you should really keep records. Even if its just receipts of purchases, and details of sales in an envelope, so that you can work out if you are working at a profit.
I believe that the best way to use your "stash" currently in stock, is to guestimate the cost of it all, and use this as part of your start up capital.
I.e. you give the business, say £100 worth of fabric, and £399 worth of sewing machines, equipement etc.
Then when you become successful enough, you can pay your self back the cost of your capital investment should you so wish. But the exact fundimental parts of that I cannot remember, as I dont think I ever did pay myself back last time, and I donated all my stock to the college at the end of it. Only kept my sewing machines and accessories really. Oh well.
This time I will have to take a good look at my capital, as I do have rather a lot of fabric, and if you are to even guestimate the amounts I would need to say base it on the adverage haberdashery fabrics at around £3. a metre and the furnishing fabrics at around £10. Then of course the amount of clothes etc donated/used/ charity shoped before I set up, will also need to be worked out.
EEEK it gets so complicated when you look at it like that.
At least with all my ebay purchases somewhere I have stored all the invoices so I can work that out. (Then have my heart attack as to where my spare cash has been leaking away!)
now that tea is definitely calling me.When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0
